Getting the hang of this…

Hey everyone!  {d&k} are still here!  We have been pretty busy trying to get the hang of this whole parenting thing, haha.  K went back to work full-time this week, so I’ve been busy trying to get things done while Juliet sleeps.  I’ve always been really good at multi-tasking…but I must say, I’m awesome now that I only have a couple of hours to get everything done!  I love it!  I feel so productive, hehe.

Anyways, things are going really well here.  We are having a blast with our little girl, even on the little amount of sleep we get a night.  The sad part is, I’m getting more sleep now with a newborn than I did when I was pregnant.  Haha, I’ll take it!

And, if anyone is wondering…the zoo absolutely loves Juliet!  The pugs are always on “patrol” and won’t let her out of their sight.  Oskar follows me everywhere and will lay right next to me, in order to keep an eye on Juliet.  He was always very protective of me, but now, it’s ridiculous.  I’ve never seen him so alert and ready to pounce on a cat.  Elvis lays next to Juliet every chance he gets and he has stopped trying to lick her face.  I think once he realized she was staying, he didn’t feel the need to claim lick her anymore.  Uma, however, must lick some part of Juliet’s body everyday.  She loves to run into Juliet’s room, sniff her entire body, and then pick a spot to lick.  Thankfully it is usually on her leg or back and not the face.  Ew.  The cats could really care less.  Charlie, dog-cat #1, just started getting close to her.  He began nuzzling her this morning and found that he really liked to nuzzle her diaper.  The diaper was covered in black fur after that, haha.  Sebastian, dog-cat #2, occasionally will sniff her, but that’s about it.  He doesn’t mind her and will lay next to her on the couch…but that’s about it.  I’m really happy that everyone gets along and that the pups aren’t jealous.  It must be exhausting being on patrol all day, because all the zoo does is sleep.  Hah.  I’m not complaining!  It makes for a very quiet house sometimes.

I promise to keep up with the blog and share all of my new motherhood stories with you. But, not until next week…my parents come in town tonight {happy dance} and are here for the weekend!  I can’t wait.  And, this is their first time meeting Juliet!  I’m so excited for this weekend!!  I will fill you all in next week…and you know I’ll have photos!

Thanks for hanging around, even though I’ve been horrible at blogging lately.  I will be better, I promise!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

And we wait…

I hate waiting.  I’m super impatient.  DW passed this trait down to me.   Thanks, dad.

What are we waiting for?!

Oh, just a little something special.  You know, Mini Mullan.

We are just sitting here, waiting.  Everything is done.  We are ready.  But, we still must wait.

We are very ready for her now.  I would love, love, love for her to make her appearance this weekend.  Come on, Mini!

What are the odds of her arriving early?  I probably have better odds of her arriving late.  But, I don’t want that.  I want her now.  NOW.

And, we’ve been trying to hurry her along.  Yes, that’s right.  We are trying all those old wives tales to help evict her.  Last night alone, I ate super spicy food, had pineapple, and went on a mile and a half walk (yes, I understand that’s not very far, but when you are carrying around a watermelon, plus a few extra pounds, it feels like it’s 10 miles).  We’ll see if any of these tales actually work.

And, we have nothing going on this weekend.  Nothing.  This would be the perfect weekend for her to come into the world.  Did you hear that, Mini?  This weekend is perfect!

But, for now, we wait.

Did I mention I hate waiting?  Ugh.  Wish us luck!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Fun Weekend Ahead!

{d&k} have a fun weekend ahead, filled with 2 friends coming to visit.  And, they don’t even know each other, haha. Their schedules do not overlap at all, which is very funny, so they won’t see or meet each other.  But, it will keep us on our toes!

So, blog posting will be a little slow until next week.  But, I will try to be better about taking photos of everything we do.

And, next week, we leave for Ohio/Michigan for a week, so blog posting will be slow then too.  Sorry.  But, when I return, I will have LOTS to tell you about!

Until then, here’s a cute photo:

Poor Uma.  She puts up with so much.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Weekend Recap

Hi everyone!

I’ve finally recuperated from my hectic, yet short, weekend in Ohio/Michigan.  And, I have lots to share with you!

{d&k} had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner (one day early).  We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I think everyone had the same idea as us because it was busy!  But, we didn’t mind.  The food was yummy and the company was even better.

Look how handsome my date is 🙂

Love this place!

IMG_2368
Yum! Too bad I filled up on bread and had to take the majority of this home as leftovers. But, the nice this is I got to enjoy for 2 days instead of one.

Valentine’s Day pug love. What could be cuter?!

On Valentine’s Day, K dropped me off at the airport to fly back to Michigan. He basically kicked me out for the weekend. At least, that’s what I told him. He was sad to see me go, but he is the one that got the bestest and me tickets for MB20. So, like I said, he kicked me out for the weekend.

Friday was a busy, busy day. I did manage to sneak in a quick lunch with B, which was unexpected and fantastic! And, I stopped by my cousin’s house to check out all of her old baby items. She said she needed to clean out her basement and I could take what I wanted. Wahoo! So, I loaded up my sister’s car with a car seat and base, high chair, some toys, and 2 huge bins of clothes. I left the car seat, high chair, and toys with my parents. Those will be one less thing we have to travel with. I then had to figure out how to get all the clothes home. I knew I would be bringing some clothes back, so I packed a large suitcase that had plenty of extra room. What I didn’t know is how many clothes I would be getting. So, I decided to buy another checked bag and borrow my parents large suitcase. By the time I left, both suitcases were jam-packed, both weighing in at just under 40 pounds. Whoa, that was close. But now, Mini Mullan’s closet is stocked!!

The loot! Thanks, cousin!!

IMG_2404
Mini Mullan’s closet. This isn’t including the full dresser! Seriously, I have the best cousin evah!

Friday night, bestest picked me up for our date and we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner (what else would we have eaten?!) then went on to the concert. MB20 was amazing! We’ve been to so many of these shows together, our first being back in 1996. Rob Thomas made a few comments about coming to Toledo since 1996 and then he said that they’ve been touring for 17 years. I did the math and holy cow, we are old! We’ve been going to MB20 shows together for 17 years. Holy cow. Now, tell me who the true fans are!!

IMG_2374
Woohooo, let the fun begin! We had awesome seats…thanks K!

IMG_2379
Sorry that it’s fuzzy…it was dark and from my phone camera. But, look how happy we are!

IMG_2403
Bestest took much better photos with her camera. I will steal them for you guys. But, you get the point!

On Saturday, I had lunch with my parents (yep, you guessed it, Mexican!) and then spent the rest of the day hanging out with family. Then, we had a great dinner with the whole family and my grandparents. I tried to stay up past 9pm, but I was exhausted. Baby shopping and a concert really wear a pregnant girl out, haha. Then, sadly, I was up at 6am to head back to the airport. It was a super short but fantastic weekend. Thanks for kicking me out, K!

And, in 2 weeks, we’ll be back in Ohio/Michigan for our baby shower! We will be there for a few more days, so we will be able to spend more time with everyone. We can’t wait!

So, that was my busy weekend. How was yours?

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Weekend recovery

Hi friends!

How was your weekend?

K was out-of-town for work, so it was just the zoo and me.  And, I had the privilege of coordinating another beautiful wedding here in Dallas on Saturday.  The bride and groom were wonderful and we all had a fantastic time.  However, I am still recovering from it.  This preggo can’t quite recover from 13 hours on her feet like she used to. (And 13 hours is a short wedding day).  Normally, I’d sleep in the Sunday after a wedding (and by sleep in, I mean like 8 or 9) and then I’d be good to go.  Well, I slept in until 8, then had to pick up the pups from the dog sitter, pick up K from the airport, and run a few errands.  I did take a small nap that afternoon, but it wasn’t the same.  It did not help.  So, I spent all day yesterday moping around, exhausted.  But, I think I may be back to my normal self today.  It’s still too early to tell.  Haha.

And, that was the extent of our weekend here.  K had a great trip and just as he’s back, I’m leaving this weekend.  Yep, that’s right.  I’m heading to Ohio/Michigan for a quick trip.  K got the bestest and me Matchbox Twenty tickets for Christmas and, since they are our favorite band, we are pumped to see them (again.  for like the 12th time.  but who’s counting.  I mean, come on…it’s Rob Thomas!  Eep).

I have a ton of things to do this week…including tracking down some sort of shirt that fits me.  Maternity clothes are so ugly.  Anyone else agree?  Seriously.  Why do these designers want us to look fat AND ugly?  I don’t get it.  And, since I’ve held off this long on buying any maternity shirts, my shirts are slowly getting too short and I have begun flashing everyone as I walk.  Or get up.  Or move in any slight way.  So, I’m on the hunt for something cute and cheap.  I am a bargain shopper.  I do not spend a lot of money on clothes.  I like my sale racks.  So, I refuse to spend $30 or more on an ugly maternity shirt that I am only going to wear for 4 more months.  Hrmph.

Wow, this post has turned very random.  Sorry about that.  It’s just been so long since I’ve posted and I, apparently, have a lot to say.

So, my to-do list for this week consists of:
spending time with K before I leave him this weekend
finding something decent to wear out of the house (yoga pants and K’s sweat shirts are only acceptable IN the house)
packing (which is going to be difficult since it is cold in Ohio and 70* here, and I don’t have a winter coat that fits)
and, there is a whole lot more, but these are the main things — wish me luck!

And, K and I are celebrating Valentine’s Day tomorrow (Yay!) with a nice dinner out to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I cannot wait.  I love carbs even more now that I’m pregnant.  Yay carbs!  Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” like carbs.  And candy.  K, did you hear that.  Candy.  No flowers.  I can’t eat flowers.

Well, I hope you are all having a lovely week.  And, I hope that you have all recovered nicely from the weekend!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Last weekend’s festivities

Last weekend, we had a lot going on.  Only fun things though, so that’s okay.  I’ll take a busy, fun weekend anytime!

Friday night we went to Oktoberfest in a neighboring city and met up with some friends there.  We ate good, but unhealthy (very, very unhealthy) food, drank beer, and had a great time people-watching.  Festivals are the best for people watching!  We did not, however, spot any fanny packs.  Disappointing.  We did see a few mullets, though, which just about make up for the fanny packs, hehe.

We also played a few festival games….

And, in the ball toss game, I WON…
Harrison, the goldfish!!!

Ok, ok.  I technically didn’t win him.  K may have had to pay off the scary lady with no teeth with a few extra tickets for Harrison but it was totally worth it.  He was living in a bucket with 100s of other fish.  That’s no life for a fish.  Now look how happy he is…

On Saturday, we went to the Plano Balloon Fest.  It.Was.Awesome.  Hot air balloons everywhere.  And, people everywhere.  There were 200,000 people at this event.  To put that into perspective…that’s the population of the city we’re from (Toledo, Ohio).  Crazy!  And, we were sitting up on a hill, so we could see all the people.  These pictures do not do it justice.  Or the balloons, for that matter.  After dark, the balloons lit up to music and there was a fireworks show (eep, one of my favorite things ever).  It was a good day.

Sunday we did nothing.

On Monday, we went to a Ranger’s game with friends and had a fantastic time.  (Monday is technically not the weekend, but since we didn’t do anything on Sunday I decided to lump Monday into this post).  It’s weird to go to a baseball game at the end of September while it’s 95 degrees.  But, I’ll take it over Ohio’s end of September weather any day.  The game was close and the Rangers tied it in the last inning, 4-4.  At their last at bat, bases loaded, a ground ball to center field is hit, sending a run in.  Rangers win!!  It was very exciting!  Fans crack me up.  Everyone was hugging each other.  Some crazy lady, who I didn’t know, hugged me.  (She later pinched k’s butt while we were leaving, haha).  But, it just shows how much we love our sports teams!

So, there you have it, {d&k}s weekend.  How was yours?

We have fun things planned for this weekend too.  Check back soon for details!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Before and After

Happy Labor Day weekend, friends!  I hope you got to enjoy the weekend, relax a bit, spend time with friends and family, and eat good food.  We did!

We had a ton going on this weekend, one being my office re-do.  Yippee!!

Here’s what I did this weekend:

Painted desk white.  It was black and I just want to brighten it up a bit.

Painted white chevron stripes on my black dresser.  Eep.  So excited for this!

Built 2 bookcases out of the free fruit crates.

Painted bookcases coral.  Yep, that’s right.  Coral!  It’s bright.  It’s fantastic.  So pumped!

Made curtains.  I bought 2 $12 drop cloths from Home Depot and I will be cutting and sewing to make 4 panels and painting a thick black stripe on them.  I’ll have a tutorial for you very soon.  Get excited!

Organize!

Organize!

Organize!  This might actually be my favorite part!  I know, I’m a nerd.

So, here are the before pictures:

Bookcases (well, actually just a pile of fruit crates, but use your imagination).

Dresser

Desk

Ok, so I’m not going to show you the after just yet.  We’re building suspense here, people.  But, you should be very excited for the next few posts. Stay tuned.

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Weekend plans…

…were rained out.  Booooo.

So, that means I didn’t get to refinish any of my furniture or use my new sander.  Boo.

And, I did not get to reorganize my office because I could not find the shelving I wanted.  However, k found something better…

THESE!

6 giant fruit crates from our local market.  For FREE!  Yep, that’s right.  Go K, go!  I have been wanting these smaller wooden crates from JoAnn’s but I didn’t want to spend that much money on them.  I wanted to stack them up and build shelves/cubbies.  Well, I didn’t want to spend $12 on each crate, so k and I went looking around for something similar.  Well, after we couldn’t find anything, k hopped on the internet and searched for fruit crates but we couldn’t find anything less than $10/crate.  That was still more than I wanted to pay.  Then, k had his brilliant idea and called over to our market.  They said they get tons of fruit crates in and if they can’t use them for displays, they throw them out.  k found out they had 6 crates that they were planning on getting rid of and k said we’d take them.  We drove right over and loaded up my car with these 6 awesome crates.  Good job, k!!  My plan for these puppies is to build 3 together to make a bookcase.  I need to sand and stain or paint them too.  This is my labor day weekend project! Wahoo!  And, now I will have 2 new, huge, bookcases that cost me nothing.  How great is that?!

So, even though my weekend projects were rained out, I now have those and a new project to look forward to this weekend.

Aside from that, we were really boring this weekend.  We stayed in and watched movies all weekend.  d didn’t feel good, plus it was raining, so it made for a good weekend to lay around.  We did venture out to take the pups to the dog park pond.  Elvis made a new friend that kept stealing his toy.  We had to wait for this pup to be distracted by something else before we could throw Elvis’ toy into the pond.  And, Elvis wouldn’t let his toy out of his sight.  If another dog came near him while he was holding his toy in his mouth, he would growl.  It was really amusing.  He’s very protective of his toys.  This is how he rode in the car on the way home…

He wanted to make sure no one touched his toy…not even his brother or sister.  Goofy dog.

The pups were pretty exhausted the rest of the day.  Swimming in the pond takes a lot out of them.  When we settled in on the couch for the night, this is what I found…

I’m not exactly sure why dog-cat#2 was tired.  He spends all day in that exact spot, looking out the window.  But, he did made for a good cuddle buddy.  And Elvis makes for a good foot stool, according to Oskar.

That’s about all the excitement our weekend held.  How was yours?  Did you do anything exciting?

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Thank You!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!  I had a wonderful birthday in Ohio, with friends and family.  And cake.  I had lots of cake.

{d&k} got into Ohio on Wednesday night and were greeted at the airport by k’s parents.  Then, we went to dinner at our favorite Ohio Mexican restaurant {yum}.  On Thursday, {d&k} ran errands, had lunch with friends, and then went to d’s parents for dinner and homemade birthday oreo cookies {yum}.  On Friday, {d&k} ran more errands (it’s amazing how much you have to do when you go home for a visit) and d got to take a birthday nap before meeting friends out for dinner and drinks.  Saturday d was coordinating a wedding all day and k got to spend the day with his parents, which included a trip to the Garrett Ranch to visit my parents and the mini donkeys.  Sunday, {d&k} went out for a birthday lunch with d’s parents, then to visit friends, and finished off their stay in Ohio with dinner at k’s parent’s house.  We had a jam-packed, fun-filled birthday weekend!  For those of you that I was able to visit with, I’m so happy we did!  For those of you that I didn’t get a chance to see, we’ll be back for Christmas…hopefully we can squeeze in something then.

I was a bad birthday blogger.  I managed to snap 3 pictures.  That’s it.  Sad.  Pitiful.  I’ll be better next year.

KT made me a birthday cake! Thanks, KT!  And, I can’t stop eating it.  Must.stop.eating.cake.  It was not my plan to gain 30 pounds on my 30th birthday.  But at this rate, that’s what it’s looking like.

{d&k} at d’s birthday dinner.

k bought d an electric sander for her birthday. Best. present. evah! Thanks, k! And for any one else, if you ever have to get me a gift, tools are always a good idea. Always. Watch out Bob Vila.

Now, it’s back to the real world.  Back to work.  Back to taking care of the dogs.  Back to eating healthy (oof, birthday weekends are full of bad food and cake.  Lots of cake).

And, I get to start on all my projects that have required an electric sander.   Like…refinishing my dining room table, 2 bedroom side tables (they NEED to be turquoise), and I’m sure I can find more.  Anyone need anything refinished or painted?  Bring it on over!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

It’s the weekend…

Do what makes you happy…

Wake up in the big dog’s bed without remembering how you got there.

Nap with the enemy.

Get dressed up. With tiny hats. Always wear tiny hats.

Let it all hang out.

After a night of fun, try not to fall out of your bed.

If you do fall out of your bed, find the next best place to sleep.

And, nap by random feet.

Remember these simple rules of happiness this weekend. If you have questions, the zoo is standing by with answers. Good luck.

Enjoy your weekend,
{d&k}
