I think they know

I think the zoo knows {d&k} are having a baby.  I mean, I had “the talk” with them right after we found out.  You know…the talk.  The one where they find out they are becoming big siblings.  Yeah, that talk.  And, they all seemed excited about it.  Uma kept getting distracted by a piece of lint blowing across the floor, but that’s to be expected.  It’s Uma.

Other than Uma, everyone handled it pretty well.  I’m actually not worried about the pups at all.  They adore kids.  When S was in town with her son, Pax, the pugs would lay outside his door until he fell asleep and they’d be right back there the next morning until he got up.  It was so cute.  When Pax was little, a pug guarded him in his carrier at all times.  Usually there was a pug on either side of him.  If one pug needed a drink, the other would stand at attention until the other pug came back.  They are ready.  And, as for Uma, she is clueless.  All.the.time.  So, she’ll be super excited every day she sees the baby.  Maybe she has short-term memory loss?  Each day is a brand new day to her.  Hmmm.  That could explain so many things.  It could also help me to understand why she hits her head on the back door handle every day, enough to give herself a bump and scar.

Anyways…So, the reason I think the zoo knows that we are having a baby is because they have all become a little extra cuddly lately.  Everyone wants to sleep on me.  Really, ON me.  Not just a head or paw touching me like they usually do.  Nope.  Entire pug/pugeranian/dog-cat body ON me.  Sometimes there are 3 animals that NEED to be on me.  Right now, mom.  Maybe they feel they need to get their cuddles in before the baby gets here.  I don’t know.  But it is definitely a new thing.  Oskar has been laying across my belly at night while I’m in bed and I think he’s crushing the baby.  She normally moves around a lot before I go to bed.  I think she’s having a late night (haha, late night = 9:30 for this girl) dance party in there.  Anyways, the last few nights while Oskar has been on me, no dance party.  I really think his little 20 pound body is crushing her.

And, as for the cats, they keep bringing me things.  Usually cat toys.  And, they are called dog-cats for a reason.  The two of them play fetch all the time.  But now, they aren’t bringing me the toys to throw.  They are little, slim-filled gifts.  Maybe for the baby?  I did wake up the other day with a cat toy on my belly.  Yep, that’s right.  And, it was under the covers.  How did a cat get the toy onto the bed and strategically place the toy under the covers on my ever-growing belly, that not too many things can balance on?!?  They must have had this feat planned out for a while.  As soon as I woke up and threw the covers off, I just started laughing. I actually had to wake K up to tell him because it was that funny.  Why do I have these furry little weirdos?!

So, what do you think?  Do you think my zoo knows?  If any of you have kids and a zoo, did your zoo act crazy too?

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Heater Hog

It’s cold here.  I mean, really cold.  For me, anyways.  I’m a baby and I do not like temperatures below 75 degrees.  Actually, that’s pushing it.  Let’s make it 80 degrees.

How did I live in Ohio for 29 years?!

So, it’s cold here.  Last night it was 33 degrees!  That’s winter coat weather, people!  What is the world coming to when Texas gets into the 30s in November?!

And, I’m stubborn.  I do not like utility bills and wasting money on heating and cooling the house.  So, I refuse to turn the heat on.  Even though, it’s a brisk 62 degrees in the house now.  So, the pups and I have locked ourselves in the office with a few hundred blankets, sweats and slippers (for me – although, Oskar would look mighty cute in slippers), and a small space heater.

The pups are cuddled up right in front of the heater and are currently not sharing with me.  Rude.

Oskar is the heater hog.  He loves this thing.  Sometimes I have to turn if off because it feels like his fur is on fire.  But he doesn’t care.  He would lay in front of that thing all day, if I let him.  Maybe that’s why we are best friends.

Oskar was laying directly in front of the heater, with about a foot between them.  Well, Elvis did not think that was fair so he sat in between Oskar and the heater.  Well, heater hog got upset and went to sit in between Elvis and the heater.  Well, at this point, the heater was touching Oskar’s fur and it started to smell like burnt pug.  Ew.  But that didn’t stop Oskar.  Heater hog.

So, I had to pull both dogs back to their little makeshift blanket bed/forts and angle the heater just right so that they could both feel the warmth and so that I could feel nothing.

The things we do for our dogs.

Meanwhile, Uma is on the other side of the room, hanging off her dog bed, tongue out, probably sweating to death.  She is a heater of her own.  She’s always hot.  She is like k.

K went to bed last night wearing shorts.  That’s it.  Shorts.

I went to bed wearing sweatpants, a t-shirt, a sweatshirt (hooded, for extra warmth), and socks and I still woke up a few times to adjust the covers and even to add another blanket.  I glanced over at k at one point and he had the covers completely off, tongue out, sweating to death.  I pulled the covered up over him and he immediately started flailing until all the covers were off again.

K and Uma.  Oskar and me.  We are weirdos.

Wish us luck today that 1, Uma doesn’t sweat to death, 2, Oskar and Elvis find a happy medium of sharing the heater and there is no more burning pug flesh/fur, and 3, that I get a little bit of heat from the heater, or Uma, or k before I freeze up and die.  Happy thoughts, people.  Happy thoughts.

Enjoy your day,

Pug Bombed

Hello {d&k} readers.  The human’s blog has been pug bombed.  We are taking over this week because we feel they do not talk about us enough or show you enough pictures.  That will change.  We (the pugs) declare this Pug Week.

Enjoy.

Check out our handsome faces and try not to nuzzle the screen.

See…the blog already looks better with more photos of us.  I mean, this is the real reason the humans blog.  To show off how cute we are.  Right?!  RIGHT?!

Now, we will be pug bombing the blog all week.  Stop back for more.

The pugs

Holy 3 years, Batman!

Yep, that’s right.  {d&k} have been married for 3 years!!  Where has the time gone?

Well, I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun! I am so, so lucky to be married to the most wonderful man, my best friend, my love pug, and all of the other cute nicknames that will make you sick-to-your-stomach.

I love the life we have formed for ourselves. I love waking up every morning to k’s scruffy face and I love that it’s the last thing I see before I close my eyes at night.

He is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me. And, I hate to break it to you, k, you are stuck with me for-ev-er. And ever.

You are my swan.

My lobster.

I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together. It’s you and me, kitten. I love you.

One Week

One week.

That’s how long it will be until I see my k again.  7 days.

They cannot come soon enough.

This has been the longest month ever.  Even longer than the month of October when k moved to Texas before me.

I also miss my little, squishy faced dogs.  And the big, dumb dog too.

I can’t wait to be back in my own bed, cuddled up with k and a pug or 2.  Hurry up, 7 days!

But, I will say that this week will be the busiest week since I’ve been here, so hopefully these next 7 days will fly by.  I shouldn’t even have that much time to think about it.  So, I guess I have that going for me.

Ok, let’s go, 7 days.  Quickly!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Over the weekend…

…We went with friends to Fort Worth for the Main Street Art Fest.
*We almost died due to G’s driving!
*G may have mentioned that we should have just rode our “big dog” instead of ride with her.
*That probably would have been a safer choice, hehe.

…I snapped a picture of k with a giant rooster.  That’s really nothing out of the ordinary, folks.

…We ate Cajun food for the first time.
*Ok, so I played it safe and ordered popcorn shrimp and fries (and now I’m working my tail off this week to make up for it).
*But, k ordered something I can’t pronounce and it did not look or smell all that appetizing, but he liked it.
*And, he may or may not have tried alligator as an appetizer.  He may or may not have been kissed by me later that night (I’ll
let you guess the correct answer on that one, ew.)

*Really?  Cat Basket?  Cat Platter?  How does that sound appetizing?  Poor cats!

…We may or may not have frozen our tails off at the art fest, after the sun went down.  What the pluck, Texas?!  I didn’t move here so you could get into the 50s at night.

…{d&k} did a lot of yard work and even planted flowers.

…Took a trip to the Farmer’s Market and had a blast!  We bought flowers, fruits & veggies, and even had lunch there.

* Apparently the theme for the weekend was Rooster!

* And, they sell sculpted shrubs…in either llama shape or Garfield.  Who knew?!  I think a llama shrub on either side of the front porch would look fantastical!  K thinks otherwise.  Whatevs, k.  You just don’t know style when you see it.

…We had a lazy Sunday night, consisting of eating take-out on the couch, playing goofy video games (in which my arm seriously hurts today), and watching stupidly funny movies (ie, Gnomeo & Juliet…watch it, it’s funny!)

…We took the pups to the dog park.
*Elvis wore himself and another pup out.  That pup’s owner came up to thank us.  Haha.
*Uma’s greyhound buddy, Polly Pocket, was there.  They had fun catching up (at least I assume they did).
*Oskar met another pug and insisted on sitting right next to him and confusing his owner.  That’s my pug!

Overall, we had a great weekend!  What did you do?

Enjoy your Monday,
{d&k}

PS — It is almost MAY!?!?  Where did April go?!?!?!

Everything’s Bigger In Texas

…including the bugs

…and their shadows!

We have these beetles that only come out at night and attach themselves to our screen door and wait to come in.  Uma treats them as a delicacy, slowly waiting to pounce and devour them.  The crunching of their bodies in between her teeth grosses me out.

The beetles are so big, they set our motion detector lights off.  Sometimes the pugs don’t even set those lights off!

While the motion lights are on, the beetles will fly over to the screen…but since it’s dark, you can’t see them, just their huge shadows.  It looks as if a bird is heading straight for the house.  I’ve nicknamed these bugs birdbugs, for that very reason.  (I’m very creative with my nicknames.  I put tremendous thought into them).

I do not like bugs.  At all.  And here, the bugs are big.  I mean, what bugs have their own shadows?!

K said the birds take cover in the birdbug’s shadows to stay out of the heat.  It’s probably true!  These things are huge, people.

Every time I see a shadow, I dive inside for protection.  The dogs think I’m nuts.  K thinks I’m nuts.  You probably would too.  I’m waiting for the day that I throw myself through the screen door to take cover from a birdbug shadow.  I can see it now…birdbug at full speed, right for my head.  Me, diving through the screen door because I thought it was open.  Landing, painfully, on the wood floor.  Pugs, running around like little banshees, free at last.  K standing over me, angry forehead wrinkle staring down at me.  Then comes the yelling.

I think it’s safe to say that I will be inside this summer, away from all birdbugs and their humongous shadows, thankyouverymuch.

In case you wondering, the saying is true.  Everything IS bigger in Texas.  I’m not sure how I feel about these birdbugs and their creepy shadows.  {Shiver}

Enjoy your day & beware the birdbugs!

{d&k} Style Easter

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter.  {d&k} did!

This was our first holiday together.  Just us.  No running from one family to another.  No stuffing ourselves to the max and then having to do it all over again, 2 hours later.  No leaving early from one house to make it to the next…not too late.  No rushing through family time.  No leaving the pups all day.  No stressing.

I’m not going to lie…It was fantastical!  We slept in (until 9am, people!).  We went to a lovely mass at church.  We came home and made some lunch – quesadillas.  (We decided every holiday must consist of some form of Mexican food).  Then we watched a movie and lounged on the couch the rest of the afternoon.  The pugs were even allowed on the couch for a cuddle, since it was Easter and all.  I made cookies while k played video games.  More lounging.  Then around 7pm, we made dinner together.  After dinner, we watched yet another movie and had more pug cuddles on the couch.  I would say that was one of the best and most relaxing holidays we’ve ever had.  Now, don’t get me wrong…we missed spending time with our families.  But it was very nice to be together for a holiday.  Just {d&k}.  We’ll remember this forever.  Probably because it will never happen again.  But, I highly recommend it at some point in your lives.

How was your Easter?

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Doppleganger Elvis

This is creepy. Prepare yourself.

Have you ever google imaged your dog?  No?  Really?!  Just me?!  Huh.

Anyways, do it.  It’s creepy.

Here’s a picture of Elvis…

Here’s what I found when I googled “dog breed pug pomeranian”…

Okay, isn’t that creepy?!  I mean, Elvis was an “oops” puppy.  Who knew there were more out there that look exactly like him?!

Now, I have no idea what made me ask k to google pugeranians, but I’m glad we did.  I think I should contact these people and see if we can get a pugeranian play group together.  I wonder if the pups would panic a little.  Think they are looking in a mirror.  Not know what to do?!

I wonder:

when these doppleganger Elvis’ run, do their tails straighten out to make them more aerodynamic?

if they have high-pitched, squeaky barks?

if they yip?  All.the.time?

do they eat anything you drop on the floor?  Including lettuce?

do they love to swim in baby pools?

I think I need to meet these guys.  I have a lot of unanswered questions!

Now, your homework for today is to google image your dog’s breed and report back to me with your findings!  GO!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}
