I’m Baaaack!!

Ok, sorry for the long hiatus.  I took a lot more time off from blogging than I anticipated.  But sadly, I don’t have that much to tell you about.  Man, my life is boring right now.  That’s not a bad thing.  I mean, I’ll gladly take the calm before the storm in the next three months.  Yep, that’s right.  Mini Mullan will be making her appearance within the next three months.  Holy cow.  How can this be?!  I did think this whole pregnancy thing was going by quickly.  I’m sure the next three months will seem to drag on.  However, the month of April is jam-packed for {d&k}, so that should fly by…right?!  We’ll see.  If you suddenly start seeing panicky posts in about a month, you’ll know April flew by.

Oh, a quick thank you to all of our loyal followers that kindly reminded me that the blog was getting dusty.  It’s nice to see you are all so interested in {d&k}s lives 🙂  Seriously, though…we do really appreciate that you are following us and want to know what we are up to.  So, thank you!!

Alright…what have {d&k} been up to since returning from Ohio/Michigan?!  Well, nothing really.  I’ve been sick.  Some sort of cold/sinus ick that I can’t seem to get rid of.  It’s making breathing through my nose very difficult.  I sound like Oskar the pug when he’s snoring.  Lovely.  People don’t stand as close to me anymore.  Which, I am okay with.  This germaphobe does not need anyone standing close to her.  K has been super busy with work.  It just clicked for him that the baby will be here in three months and that he should be setting up some of his coworkers as backups for all of his upcoming projects, just in case.  This made him a little twitchy last week.  Haha.  We’ll see what happens with that.  The zoo is doing great.  They smell.  All of them.  Good thing I scheduled a spa day for them next week.  I love when they come home all fluffy!  Normally I give them baths (the pugs in the bath tub and Uma outside in her baby pool), however, it is getting much more difficult for me to bend over, let alone lean over a bath tub.  So, off to the vet they go.  Plus, they have fancier shampoo 🙂  The weather here has been amazing.  It’s been in the 70s the last week.  It is supposed to cool off this weekend and drop into the high 50s and continue on into next week like that.  But, I can’t complain. Especially spending a week in Ohio & Michigan’s weather.  Brrrr.  My skin has definitely thinned out from living here.  I can’t do the cold anymore!

And, that’s us as of late.  Nothing exciting.  I’m hoping that I can have something better for you in the next few days.  Maybe something exciting will pop up?  Don’t count on it.

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,

Fun Weekend Ahead!

{d&k} have a fun weekend ahead, filled with 2 friends coming to visit.  And, they don’t even know each other, haha. Their schedules do not overlap at all, which is very funny, so they won’t see or meet each other.  But, it will keep us on our toes!

So, blog posting will be a little slow until next week.  But, I will try to be better about taking photos of everything we do.

And, next week, we leave for Ohio/Michigan for a week, so blog posting will be slow then too.  Sorry.  But, when I return, I will have LOTS to tell you about!

Until then, here’s a cute photo:

Poor Uma.  She puts up with so much.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Weekend Recap

Hi everyone!

I’ve finally recuperated from my hectic, yet short, weekend in Ohio/Michigan.  And, I have lots to share with you!

{d&k} had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner (one day early).  We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I think everyone had the same idea as us because it was busy!  But, we didn’t mind.  The food was yummy and the company was even better.

Look how handsome my date is 🙂

Love this place!

Yum! Too bad I filled up on bread and had to take the majority of this home as leftovers. But, the nice this is I got to enjoy for 2 days instead of one.

Valentine’s Day pug love. What could be cuter?!

On Valentine’s Day, K dropped me off at the airport to fly back to Michigan. He basically kicked me out for the weekend. At least, that’s what I told him. He was sad to see me go, but he is the one that got the bestest and me tickets for MB20. So, like I said, he kicked me out for the weekend.

Friday was a busy, busy day. I did manage to sneak in a quick lunch with B, which was unexpected and fantastic! And, I stopped by my cousin’s house to check out all of her old baby items. She said she needed to clean out her basement and I could take what I wanted. Wahoo! So, I loaded up my sister’s car with a car seat and base, high chair, some toys, and 2 huge bins of clothes. I left the car seat, high chair, and toys with my parents. Those will be one less thing we have to travel with. I then had to figure out how to get all the clothes home. I knew I would be bringing some clothes back, so I packed a large suitcase that had plenty of extra room. What I didn’t know is how many clothes I would be getting. So, I decided to buy another checked bag and borrow my parents large suitcase. By the time I left, both suitcases were jam-packed, both weighing in at just under 40 pounds. Whoa, that was close. But now, Mini Mullan’s closet is stocked!!

The loot! Thanks, cousin!!

Mini Mullan’s closet. This isn’t including the full dresser! Seriously, I have the best cousin evah!

Friday night, bestest picked me up for our date and we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner (what else would we have eaten?!) then went on to the concert. MB20 was amazing! We’ve been to so many of these shows together, our first being back in 1996. Rob Thomas made a few comments about coming to Toledo since 1996 and then he said that they’ve been touring for 17 years. I did the math and holy cow, we are old! We’ve been going to MB20 shows together for 17 years. Holy cow. Now, tell me who the true fans are!!

Woohooo, let the fun begin! We had awesome seats…thanks K!

Sorry that it’s fuzzy…it was dark and from my phone camera. But, look how happy we are!

Bestest took much better photos with her camera. I will steal them for you guys. But, you get the point!

On Saturday, I had lunch with my parents (yep, you guessed it, Mexican!) and then spent the rest of the day hanging out with family. Then, we had a great dinner with the whole family and my grandparents. I tried to stay up past 9pm, but I was exhausted. Baby shopping and a concert really wear a pregnant girl out, haha. Then, sadly, I was up at 6am to head back to the airport. It was a super short but fantastic weekend. Thanks for kicking me out, K!

And, in 2 weeks, we’ll be back in Ohio/Michigan for our baby shower! We will be there for a few more days, so we will be able to spend more time with everyone. We can’t wait!

So, that was my busy weekend. How was yours?

Enjoy your day,

Weekend recovery

Hi friends!

How was your weekend?

K was out-of-town for work, so it was just the zoo and me.  And, I had the privilege of coordinating another beautiful wedding here in Dallas on Saturday.  The bride and groom were wonderful and we all had a fantastic time.  However, I am still recovering from it.  This preggo can’t quite recover from 13 hours on her feet like she used to. (And 13 hours is a short wedding day).  Normally, I’d sleep in the Sunday after a wedding (and by sleep in, I mean like 8 or 9) and then I’d be good to go.  Well, I slept in until 8, then had to pick up the pups from the dog sitter, pick up K from the airport, and run a few errands.  I did take a small nap that afternoon, but it wasn’t the same.  It did not help.  So, I spent all day yesterday moping around, exhausted.  But, I think I may be back to my normal self today.  It’s still too early to tell.  Haha.

And, that was the extent of our weekend here.  K had a great trip and just as he’s back, I’m leaving this weekend.  Yep, that’s right.  I’m heading to Ohio/Michigan for a quick trip.  K got the bestest and me Matchbox Twenty tickets for Christmas and, since they are our favorite band, we are pumped to see them (again.  for like the 12th time.  but who’s counting.  I mean, come on…it’s Rob Thomas!  Eep).

I have a ton of things to do this week…including tracking down some sort of shirt that fits me.  Maternity clothes are so ugly.  Anyone else agree?  Seriously.  Why do these designers want us to look fat AND ugly?  I don’t get it.  And, since I’ve held off this long on buying any maternity shirts, my shirts are slowly getting too short and I have begun flashing everyone as I walk.  Or get up.  Or move in any slight way.  So, I’m on the hunt for something cute and cheap.  I am a bargain shopper.  I do not spend a lot of money on clothes.  I like my sale racks.  So, I refuse to spend $30 or more on an ugly maternity shirt that I am only going to wear for 4 more months.  Hrmph.

Wow, this post has turned very random.  Sorry about that.  It’s just been so long since I’ve posted and I, apparently, have a lot to say.

So, my to-do list for this week consists of:
spending time with K before I leave him this weekend
finding something decent to wear out of the house (yoga pants and K’s sweat shirts are only acceptable IN the house)
packing (which is going to be difficult since it is cold in Ohio and 70* here, and I don’t have a winter coat that fits)
and, there is a whole lot more, but these are the main things — wish me luck!

And, K and I are celebrating Valentine’s Day tomorrow (Yay!) with a nice dinner out to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I cannot wait.  I love carbs even more now that I’m pregnant.  Yay carbs!  Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” like carbs.  And candy.  K, did you hear that.  Candy.  No flowers.  I can’t eat flowers.

Well, I hope you are all having a lovely week.  And, I hope that you have all recovered nicely from the weekend!

Enjoy your day,

Yay! Another Countdown!!

{d&k} have so many fun things coming up to look forward to.  So, I thought it was appropriate for another countdown!!

11 Days until Tara (one of my bestests) will visit the Big D

30 Days until I’m back in Ohio to see the oh-so-beautiful Rob Thomas and Matchbox 20 with Sara (eep!)

41 Days until {d&k} are back in Ohio/Michigan for our bestests to throw Mini Mullan a baby shower (eep!)

And…are you ready for this…

140 Days until Mini Mullan graces us with her presence (eep!  panic!  eep!)

Wow, that’s a lot to look forward to!  I’d say, just based on that, 2013 is going to be a fantastic year!

Thanks for stopping by!
Enjoy your day,

I hate snow.  I was not ready for it this year.  At all.  And, I thought I’d just have to see it when we visited our family in Michigan.  Oh no.  I was wrong.

Guess what showed up in TEXAS on Christmas?!  Yep, you guessed it.  Snow.
Texas snow

Then, we get stuck at the airport for 4 hours due to snow in Michigan, which delayed our flight.  When we finally landed in Michigan, there was way too much snow for me.  Way too much.  K said there was a little path cleared for the plane to land on the runway.  That’s why I don’t look out the window when flying.

And then we spent the rest of the trip in this:

Snow.  Everywhere.  And, it was cold.  Like 9 degrees cold.

Thankfully when we got back to Dallas, it was in the 50s.  I’ve only been gone a year, Michigan.  I’m not ready for snow yet.

And, I’m happy to report we haven’t had any more snow since we’ve been back. Unfortunately, it is raining right now and going to continue to rain for the next 24 hours. So, we’ve replaced snow with mud. But, at least it is not 9 degrees!

Did anyone else see snow on Christmas?   Anyone else in Texas see snow recently?

Enjoy your day and stay rain and snow free,

Hello there, 2013!

Happy, happy 2013, everyone!  {d&k} hope you had a fabulous new year and a very happy holiday.

Has everyone jumped back into the swing of things?  {d&k} are back to work and getting back into the flow of our routine.  It was nice being off over the holidays, but I miss knowing what day of the week it is.  Haha.

We had a great trip back to Ohio & Michigan and are so happy we were able to spend time with family and friends, even if it was only for an hour or two.  It’s hard fitting in everyone.  Plus, we only had time for a short visit.  Hopefully the next time we are back in town we can spend more time with our loved ones.  As for now, it’s back to phone calls, emails, and FaceTime 🙂

Now that {d&k} are back, we have a lot to share with you.  Including some very exciting news we’re posting tomorrow.  Stay tuned.  Plus, I have a few photos from our trip that I will be posting soon.

Again, {d&k} want to wish you all a very happy new year.  We hope 2013 is more than what you hope it will be!!

Enjoy your day,

I think it’s time for another countdown!

Yes, that’s right.  It has been way too long since our last countdown.  Here is what {d&k} are looking forward to:

12 days until Christmas (I feel a song coming on)

13 days until we are back in Ohio/Michigan to visit with family and friends (I’m sure I can think of a song for this too)

And, that’s it.  Now it seems pretty uneventful.  Only two things made the countdown.  Now, I could have given you our schedule of events while we are in Ohio and Michigan but I think that’s probably more information that you’re here looking for.  Am I right?!  So, we’ll leave it at that pitiful little countdown.

But yay for only 12 days until Christmas!  Seriously, where has the time gone?  Thankfully I’m finished with my Christmas shopping.  Now, all we have left is to ship a few things off.  Ooh, and make Christmas cookies.  That’s this weekends project.  Get excited for pictures.  And pack.  We’ll have to pack sometime soon.  But, then we are done and we get to enjoy our first Christmas together as a family (of 3, sort of).  Yay! We have a few Christmas traditions we’ve started over the years and I’m excited to add to those.  Yay for Christmas!

Yay for Christmas!!

Enjoy your day,

I’m Baaaaaaaack!!

I’m back!

Back to Dallas.

Back to blogging.

I’m so sorry about the last month.  I was super busy and between working in the office, coordinating 4 weddings, and all the driving I was doing (I’m not used to driving from the country into the “city” — it takes for-ev-er), blogging fell behind.

But, I’m back now and I have lots to share with you!

Let’s start with the drive back to the big D and then, over the next week I’ll fill you in on all the things I did and people I saw while in Ohio & Michigan.  Sound like a plan?  Good!

The drive back to Dallas had been planned for a while and we knew that we were taking KT’s car.  So, then came the fun part (for KT) trying to figure out what she wanted to pack, since we only had a 4 door car to work with and we had to leave room for the 2 of us and Gabby-the-cat.  Oh, and I should mention that I had 2 large suitcases.  Oops.  I didn’t quite think that through when I packed for a month.  Don’t judge.  A month is a long time, people.  And, I’m a girl.  That means lots of shoes, thankyouverymuch.

So, once we determined what to bring, the next step was getting it to fit in the car.  It was the worst game of Tetris evah!  But, we won!  We are the car Tetris champions!!  This is mostly due to Space Bags.  Have you heard of them?  If not, you HAVE to try them.  They are amazing.  See for yourself:

Here, we have 2 full size pillows.  Prepare to be amazed…

Same 2 pillows in a much more manageable size!  I think we will be using these bags for vacation!
(I, in no way, benefit from recommending Space Bags.  I just wanted to let you in on a new little packing secret!)

Ok, so now that the car was packed, all we had left to do was give Gabby-the-cat her “sleeping” pill and we were off.  We did the majority of the driving the first day, leaving about 7 hours for us to finish up on the second day.  This time around was much easier since we stopped overnight.  I don’t think I will want to drive straight through ever again.  We also took a different route this time because Ohio is such a long state and I didn’t want to drive through it.  Instead, we headed west to Indiana, though part of Illinois, Missouri, and then the long part of the trip was through Arkansas.  We drove about 130 miles in to Arkansas before we called it a night on day 1.  We stayed in a little town in Arkansas and, of course, had to smuggle the cat into the hotel.  It was either stay at the Hampton Inn or stay next door at the Bates Motel with the outside entrances and risk our lives just to be able to take the cat in directly to the room.  We choose the Hampton Inn cat extraction plan – aka, option 1.  We were quite pleased with ourselves after scoping out the hotel, dropping a load off in the room, then sneakily, Mission Impossible style, ran around the outside perimeter of the hotel looking for another entrance that was close to our room.  Thankfully, our room was almost to the end of a wing and on the 2nd level, far from the front desk.  We were also close to a stairwell that led to a side door, which we conveniently parked next to.  And, to our benefit, Gabby-the-cat is black and KT just happened to have a black sweatshirt in the car.  Success!  We’ll just wrap the cat in the sweatshirt, load up my arms with bags and a pillow, and no one will ever know there is a teeny-tiny 7 pound cat in there too.  Success!  We made it into the hotel room and had ourselves a little party, complete with cat food and pizza!  (The cat food was for Gabby-the-cat, not us.  I think that was self-explanatory but sometimes you never know).

The next morning we had to do the same thing.  We did it the exact same way as the night before and cat extraction 2012 was successful!  Go us!  The weird thing was when we left the hotel side door and were rounding the corner to our car, we saw 3 black cats, all with white patches on their chests, along with 3 black and white cats, all sitting near our car.  It was bizarre.  Why were there so many cats?  Why did they all look-alike?  Why were they in sets of 3?  There are still so many unanswered questions!

I digress.  Back to the drive.  So, we determined every state we went through looked the same.  Corn fields.  Grain fields.  Fields upon fields.  I took pictures of each state, but honestly I’m not sure which state each is from because they all look the same.  It was very boring scenery.  We did get to cross the Mississippi River in Missouri, which was a highlight of the trip.  Neither of us had ever been to it before.  We had also never been to Missouri.  Again, not that exciting of a highlight, but one none the less.  And, answer this for me…Can you name another city in Arkansas besides Little Rock?  Me either!  I can now that I’ve driven through the state, but they are still not cities I’d heard of before driving through.  Weird.

I’m so far into this very random post and I honestly have no idea where I’m going with it.  Basically, we had a fun, uneventful, corn field filled, two-day trip with a drugged up cat.  How is that different from any other day here at {d&k}s blog?

I will leave you with a few pictures and some funny, random things heard while in the car with d & KT.

Beginning of the trip.  Still in Michigan and getting ready to leave on day 1.

I think this is Indiana.  Maybe Ohio.  Well, it could also be Illinois, Missouri, or Arkansas.  Basically this was our view for 18 hours.

The Mississippi River.

KT – Get your camera ready.  There’s a giant bunny on the side of the road!
{d} – What?!

{d} – WHAT?!?!
KT – Nevermind, it went behind a tree.

KT – …Alligators and swamps…
{d} – What?!

KT – I know you think they are scary, but bird flight patterns are fascinating.  They are so coordinated!
{d} – What?!

KT – LOOK!  Those trees look like cacti!
{d} – What?!

{KT} –  Wow, this city has an archaeological museum too!
{d} – Nope, same one…just an advertisement.

Do you see the pattern here?  KTs random yellings.  All happening while I was driving and I had no clue what she was talking about.  I’m pretty sure, aside from the bunny, these all happened in Arkansas.  Apparently that state makes KT  a little crazy.

I’m so happy to be back!  Back to Dallas.  Back to blogging.  I hope you are happy I’m back too!

Enjoy your day,
