K’s birthday

Hey everyone!

K’s birthday celebration weekend was fantastic!  We had a great time all weekend together.  I love K’s birthday more than my own, so by Thursday I was chomping at the bit to give him his birthday presents.  I bought them weeks before and they were sitting there in my office, taunting me everyday.  I’m actually surprised I managed to wait until two days before his birthday to give in.  And, I decided to give K his gifts early due to a little conversation we had in the car Thursday on the way home from dinner.  It went a little something like this:

{Justin Timberlake song playing on the radio}
K – Did you know JT is coming to American Airlines Center?
D – No way!  Really?  When?
K – In December.  His tickets sold out in 25 minutes!!
D – Oh man, that’s crazy.  Well, looks like we’ll have to catch him next time around.  I didn’t even know he was going to be in town.
K – Yeah.  Everyone at work was talking about how they tried to get tickets but they sold out so fast.
D – Well, it is JT.  What can you do?!

{D&K arrive home minutes later.}
D – Ok, so I feel like I should give you one of your presents early.
K – Ooookkkkkkk.  You know I won’t say no.
D – Ok, here you go.  I thought that since we recently had a conversation about this, it was appropriate to give you it now.
K – {Opening a small envelope containing 2 tickets to see Justin Timberlake at American Airlines Center in December.}  WHAT?  HOLY COW!!  How did you get these?!
{K running over to hug D.}
K – Seriously…how did you get these?  They sold out in 25 minutes.  You are the best wife ever.

Hehe, I am the best wife ever!  I saw a friend’s Facebook post about scoring tickets to the JT concert.  Someone commented asking how she got them early.  She said she signed up to be on the mailing list and they gave her a special code for presale tickets.  Ok, don’t mind if I do.  At that time, I didn’t even know he was on tour in Dallas or when the show was.  So, I hopped on his website and did a little research.  I found out he’d be here in December and that day his tickets went up for presale with the special code.  So, I signed up for the newsletter and got my code.  Then, I sat on the stupid Ticketmaster website for about half the day, hitting refresh every few minutes trying to get tickets.  Ugh.  It was painful and pretty much impossible.  Eventually, the website switched to “sold out.”  Sniff.  Then, I notice on the website that you can purchase presale tickets the next day if you use your MasterCard.  Apparently, MasterCard is sponsoring JT and had a set amount of presale tickets set aside.  Our bank card is a MasterCard, but I wasn’t planning on using that to buy the tickets because I didn’t want K to see if he logged into to check the bank account.  But, if I wanted these tickets, that was my only way.  I knew if I waited for the tickets to go on sale for everyone, I wouldn’t be able to get any.  So, I got up early the next day and tried again.  Again, I sat at the computer hitting refresh, waiting for tickets.  Finally, in the second tier of tickets (I was hoping for the cheap seats, haha), some opened up and I scooped them up.  Just as I’m about to enter my credit card info, I get an error message, saying that Ticketmaster’s website is experiencing technical difficulties and to try again.  NOOOOOOO!  This basically happened about 5 more times.  I almost gave up.  Then, on my next try, those tickets were still available and I was able to enter my credit card info without any error messages.  Success!  I just scored 2 tickets for my baby for his birthday.  YES!  Best wife ever.  Then, panic set in.  I quickly went on to our bank website to check the account to see how the purchase showed up on there.  Sure enough, it said “Justin Timberlake” on there.  Crap.  Now what?!  This was almost 2 weeks before his birthday.  How was I going to keep him from looking at the bank account?!  So, I sent K a text telling him that if he looked at the bank account anytime before his birthday, I would cut off both hands, which would inevitably leave him unable to speak (because he talks with his hands, hehe).  He agreed to stay away from the bank account, but I was paranoid for those 2 weeks.  Then, on that Thursday before his birthday when he brought up JT’s concert, I almost died.  I thought for sure he had logged onto the bank account and saw my purchase.  But, he was a good boy and he did not log on at all.  He had no idea what I was up to and was honestly surprise.  YES!

So, that is my story about how I got K a fantastic birthday present.  I probably should have mentioned that K LOVES JT.  I mean LOVES him.  So, this will be an awesome show to take K to.  I cannot wait.

So, since I gave K his gifts early, Saturday (his actual birthday) wasn’t as exciting since he had nothing to open.  We made the best of it though.  K volunteered that morning, serving breakfast to the homeless.  Yes, how sweet is my husband that he volunteers on his birthday?!  Love him!  Then, we went out to lunch for pizza at Grimaldi’s.  (If you haven’t been here, go. Now.  So.good).  And, we spent the rest of the afternoon driving around Dallas looking at multi-million dollar homes.  There are so, so many.  It is so much fun and really depressing at the same time, haha.  Then, we headed up to Frisco to a Roughriders baseball game, in the 95 degree heat.  Too bad they didn’t win.  I think we are bad luck.  That’s our 3rd RRs game and they’ve lost all 3.  Get it together, boys.  All in all, it was a pretty good birthday.  We had a ton of fun and spent the next day sleeping in and catching up on sleep.  Happy birthday weekend, K!

It’s May….finally!

Holy cow, it’s finally May. Remember when I said April should fly by because we were so busy? Yeah, it didn’t. It seemed to drag on and on.

Now that it’s May, I can officially say Mini Mullan will be here next month. Oh wow, next month. Who’s excited!?! ME, ME! I’m done being pregnant. I just want our baby. Now. And, it doesn’t help that I’m impatient (thanks for that trait, DW). I really have no idea how I’m going to make it another 6 weeks. Maybe May will fly by!? Haha, probably not. Everyone that has already had kids tells me the last 2 months go by so slow. Well, so far that’s true. And, it doesn’t help that we have everything done and we are just waiting. I should have taken my time on the room, the shopping for necessities, laundry, etc. At least I still have to get the zoo ready. Mainly the dog-cats. This could take awhile too. They are smart but only when they want to be. I have a feeling all of my baby pep talks have gone in one giant ear and out the other. Sebastian’s fluffy ear fur probably blocked everything I said. He’s sort of a mama’s boy and I have a feeling he will have the hardest time with Mini’s arrival. Any suggestions to get a couple of dog-cats ready for a baby?

We do have some fun things coming up in May to look forward to, including K’s birthday! Yay! I love K’s birthday…way more than my own. And, I’m on top of it this year. I’ve already purchased AND wrapped the presents, figured out dessert (for him to take to work – I’ll share pics), his cake, and of course, planned his favorite dinner, mac ‘n cheese.

Anyone else excited that it is finally May? Are you looking forward to nicer weather? I hope everyone has a fantastic May!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your day,

Happy to be back!

I’m so happy to be back in Dallas.  I missed k and the zoo so much!   A month is way too long to be without them!  Never again.

Before k left Ohio to come back to Dallas, KT told him that she expected a proper welcome home.  Complete with a banner, cookie cake, and margaritas.  We did not think k would remember this.  But, to our surprise, we walked into the house to a welcome home banner, a cookie cake, and a pitcher of margaritas.  Yay k!

k, is amazing!  Thanks for giving us a wonderful welcome home, k!

And, the pups were very welcoming too!  Elvis hardly stopping wiggling long enough for this photo:

I’m glad to get back to my normal routine.  I’m glad to be not so busy.  This last month kicked my butt.  I could hibernate for a month to catch up on sleep.  I jumped right back in where I left off with life here in Dallas and it feels great!  Things already feel “back to normal” and I’m catching up on things I’ve missed – cleaning, playing with the pups, working out, cooking.  It is going to be a great summer!  A hot one, but still great!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,

Hippo Birdie Two Ewe!

Today is sponsored by the number 31.

31.  That’s how old k is today.  Hippo Birdie Buddy!!!

To celebrate k’s birthday, I wanted to share 31 reasons why I love this guy…

1.  Look at that face.  He lights up a room when he smiles.  He can make me smile, just by starting to grin.  And, I can get him to smile even when he’s mad, just by telling him not to smile.  He’s easy (that’s probably not the first time he’s heard that line).

2.  K is extremely genuine and the nicest person I’ve ever met.  He will do anything for anyone, no questions asked.

3.  K is an amazing husband.  He is extremely caring and loving.  He will do anything for me or the zoo (and come on, you know that’s love when it’s midnight and the zoo still needs a walk).

4.  I love the way k loves the zoo.  Some days they get on his nerves and he threatens to drop Elvis off in the country at least 3 times a week, but at the end of the day he secretly loves them.  Occasionally, I’ll catch him cuddling or kissing the tops of their heads.

5.  K loves my family as much as I do.  My crazy, loud, super-fun family.  I think he talks to my siblings and dad more than I do.

6.  K is great at letting me know he’s thinking about me.  For no reason at all, he’ll come home from work or a late meeting with a 7-eleven slurpee in tow.  He knows the way to my heart.

7.  I love how k will sit through one of my favorite tv shows, on repeat, when I’m having a bad day because he knows it will make me laugh.

8.  I love how k’s face lights up when he tells the story of how we met or how he proposed.  (I’ll tell you those stories someday).

9.  K is a great people-watching partner.  Sporting events are awesome with k!

10.  I love that k is happy and content staying in, ordering pizza, and watching a movie.

11.  I love that k watches chick-flicks with me and his two favorites are Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde.  Do we see a Reese Witherspoon pattern here?!  That’s okay, I’ll take it.  As long as he keeps watching these movies with me.

12.  K has become very good at telling really bad jokes.  I love that he cracks himself up over these.

13.  I love that when I tell a really bad joke or I make fun of k for something that only I think is funny, he still high-fives me.  He’s very supportive like that.

14.  I love how much passion k has.  Whether it be work, an organization, or our family, k puts all his heart into it.

15.  K will never be satisfied with being “just okay” or “good enough”.  He will push himself to the max to be the best at everything. I love this about him.  I also love that he pushes me to be the best.

16.  I love that k talks with his hands.  A lot.  Sometimes I will hold his hands to make him stop talking.  (Remember this, folks.  You may need to use it sometime).

17.  K sometimes has whole conversations with himself.  It’s awesome being a bystander!

18.  I love how easily distracted k is.  He calls it ADOS (Attention Deficit Oooh Shiny!).

19.  K is an awesome shopping buddy.  He is honest and won’t let me walk out of a store with something that doesn’t look good on.

20.  K makes car trips fun.  I hate being in the car.  I hate driving.  But somehow, road trips with k are always a good time.  Even the 20 hour drive from Ohio to Texas was fun!

21.  K is always up for a photo-op.  I have more pictures of just k than I do of the 2 of us together because I’m always manning the camera 🙂  It’s on purpose.  Plus, k doesn’t mind looking goofy if it will be a good picture.  This also helps the blog out tremendously.  Thanks k!

22.  K is always up for an adventure or trying something new.  And, being in a new city, this is perfect!  Whenever I mention a new restaurant, shop, new neighborhood to check out, k’s usual response is “I’m in!”  Thanks for always being in, k!

23.  K is very caring and nurturing.  I know he will be an amazing dad someday.  He is so good at taking care of the pups and me.

24.  I love the way that k has helped me become more like him.  Now, this isn’t necessarily a good thing.  I mean, do we really want 2 k’s in the world?  And, I could have done without k’s dirty mind (that’s what she said, and all).

25.  I love that k is my biggest cheerleader.  Whether it’s wedding planning, my Etsy shop, or just taking all 3 dogs on a walk by myself (which is pretty difficult to do, btw), he’s on the sidelines cheering me on all the way.

26.  K likes to panic/worry about the past and I like to panic/worry about the future.  Somehow both of us manage to talk the other off the edge.  K is great at talking me off the edge.

27.  I love that k’s brain never stops running (aka, Ernesto).  He’s always coming up with solutions to problems we don’t have, commercials for companies he doesn’t work for, and weird ways for us to make millions (ask him about Marackobamas).  I can always expect a new commercial, solution, or idea when he gets out of the shower (apparently that’s where he does his best work).

28.  I love how competitive k is.  This becomes very difficult because I’m super competitive too.  Any game, sport, or really just about anything you can bet on or win doing, becomes an instant competition between us.  Who knew hitting a bucket of golf balls at the driving range would soon be a battle to the death?!

29.  K is a very deep sleeper.  He will sleep through our dogs barking, the neighbor dogs barking, all while our neighbors shoot off fireworks in our front yard.  I love this because at least one of us is getting some sleep.

30.  K also flails in his sleep.  Thankfully I am a light sleeper and as soon as I sense the shadow from his elbow heading towards my face, I roll over, only slightly missing an elbow to the eye and a bright, shiny new black eye.  Explain that one in the morning.  I do love this, though, because it makes for hilarious stories in the morning and k not believing me at all.

31.  I love how k is mine.  All mine.  I claimed him.  He’s mine.  Forever.  (Whether you like it or not, k.  You are stuck with ME!).

There you have it…31 reasons why I love k…for his 31st birthday.  There are so many more reasons, but I’ll save those for his 50th (hey, I like to plan ahead).

Happy Birthday, Buddy!!  I love you more than you will ever know and I can’t wait to spend another birthday with you.  I know you don’t want to get older, but hey, at least you get to grow older with ME!  And, you get more handsome every year!  (Which is not fair.  Ladies, do you agree?!).

Enjoy your 31st birthday, k!  It only happens once…let’s make it a good one!

Enjoy your day,
