K’s drugged-up state

Hi friends!

Sorry I’ve been lacking in the posts this week…I’ve been taking care of K.  Yep, that’s right.  K had his wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and has been in a little bit of pain this week.  He’s been taking it easy and I’ve been playing nurse.  He’s doing much better, still sore, but back at work now.  So, my blogging fell a bit behind.  But, to make up for it, I have some funny K-under-anesthesia stories for you!!

K went in for his surgery on Tuesday morning and about an hour later I was able to go back and see him and help wake him up from the drugs.  This is when the laughing-until-crying began.  As soon as I walk in and sit down, the nurse taps K’s arm and tells him to wake up and see who she brought in for him.  He opens one eye, barely, sees me and flicks me off.  Ha.  Then he goes right back to sleep.  So I start talking to him to try to get him to wake up and nothing.  No movement.  Nothing.  Then, the doctor comes in to tell me that K did a great job and that he should have a pretty speedy recovery (yay!) and then he taps K’s arm to wake him up.  K, of course, wakes up, opens both eyes and gives the doctor two thumbs up.  Then, he turns to look at me and flicks me off again.  Apparently in his drugged-up state he thinks I did the surgery on him.

After a little while longer of coaxing, he is finally starting to wake up.  I kept bribing him with going home to sleep in his own bed, instead of the fake leather dentist’s chair, but he would just nestle into the chair more, like it was the most comfortable chair he’s ever been in.  Ha.

Then, he holds up four fingers and I said, “Four?”  He nods and then holds up four fingers on one hand and two on the other.  I said, “Six?”  He nods and holds up five fingers.  I said, “Five?” and then he proceeds to make rippling/ocean like movements with his hand.  I told him I had no idea what that meant and he flicked me off, again.  At this point, the tears came.  I couldn’t hold them in.  I was laughing so hard!  He was just so cute lying there, eyes closed, trying to communicate with me and I had no idea what he was talking about.  Plus, his mouth was stuffed full of gauze and he couldn’t talk.  Poor guy.  I feel bad for laughing now, but it was just so funny.

At this point, the nurse has come in to talk to me more about his recovery and we are both trying to wake him up.  He’s finally “awake” and able to sit up.  He’s trying to talk to us but he’s not making any sense.  We are asking him questions and he kept pointing to me to answer for him.  And then he would get upset when I answered wrong, haha.  We decide he’s awake enough to walk, so the nurse has me pull my car around out front while she gets him to the door.  After waiting by my car for a few minutes, I decide to go in and see if everything is okay.  I get inside, just as they are coming out, and grab K’s other arm to help balance him.  We walk him to the car, put him in, and try to buckle him in.  But, he’s insistent on buckling himself in.  He finally gets the seat belt in and then does a little celebratory dance in the car.  Then, the nurse hands me 3 packages of little kid toothbrushes.  I look at her confused and then ask if these are for K to brush his teeth with.  She laughs and said, “No, they are for the baby.”  At this point I’m very confused and she sees it.  She begins to tell me that as they were walking out the back hallway, they passed some boxes of kid toothbrushes and K stopped to get one.  She asked what he needed that for and he said that he needs girly colored toothbrushes for the baby.  She laughs and K gets upset and won’t leave until she finds him toothbrushes.  So, she begins digging through these boxes and keeps pulling out toothbrushes but K doesn’t like them because they are not girly enough.  She said he was adamant on getting girly toothbrushes.  Haha.  Finally, she found three that he was okay with.  So now, we have three girly toothbrushes for the baby.  I didn’t have the heart to tell him that we won’t need those for a while.  So, instead, they are in the toothbrush holder in the baby’s bathroom.  Even in a drugged-up state, K was still concerned with the baby. What a sweet man!

The funny thing about all of this is that he had no idea any of this happened.  After we got him home and let him sleep off what was left of the anesthesia, I told him these stories.  He was shocked and couldn’t stop laughing.  He said that apparently while drugged, he was very concerned with the baby’s dental hygiene and very upset with me.  I told him that he’s never flicked me off that many times in a row, haha.

So now, K is in the recovery stages and is doing well.  He’s still in bit of pain, but the pain meds seem to be helping with that.  And, the poor thing is on a liquid/soft foods diet.  He’s been living off of tomato soup, instant breakfast drinks, cream of wheat (yuck!), and ice cream.  He did try bread for the first time yesterday and had to chew it with his front teeth.  I had a weird vision that a squirrel was sitting across from me at Panera, eating tomato soup and bread.  It was weird.  I’m hoping that by next week, he’ll be able to incorporate a few other soft foods into his diet.  Fingers crossed.

And, Tara is coming into town this weekend and K won’t be able to eat at any of the restaurants we want to go to.  Do you think the restaurants will mix up his food in a blender for him?  Yummm….drinkable burgers and fries!  Haha.

So, that has been my week.  Entertaining to say the least.  How has your week been?  On another note, the baby’s crib, mattress, and bedding arrived in the mail.  I will share pictures with you next week.  And, I finished painting the dresser.  Those pictures to come next week too.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!  We’ll chat next week!
Enjoy your day,

My Unhealthy Obsession with Fireworks

Happy 4th of July!  I hope you all had an amazing time!

{d&k} had a great time!  We spent time with friends and saw fireworks on July 3rd and 4th!  Wahoo!

I love, love, love fireworks.  They are probably one of my favorite things in the world.  I know, I’m weird.  I can’t help it.  This year’s fireworks were fantastic!  And, the best part is, I got to see them with k!!  Over the last few years, k was always working on or around July 4th, so we didn’t get to watch fireworks together.  Sometimes I would tag along with friends, but it wasn’t the same.  I wanted to watch them with him!

Now that we are in Dallas and less busy, we get to see fireworks together!  Yay!

This year we saw two very good shows and I spent the whole time “ooh-ing” and “ahh-ing” all while k and our friends made fun of me.  Thanks guys!  Don’t be jealous of my love for fireworks.  I can’t help it they are the coolest!

We also spent a lot of time in the pool and we are a little lobster-like right now.  K has been trying really hard to get rid of his “golfer” tan.  Right now, it looks like he is always wearing a white t-shirt and socks.  Hot.  Especially when it looks like he’s wearing socks with sandals.  Yes, I give you permission to make fun of him.

Here’s a little peek into our 4th:

Here are the pugs sitting & patiently waiting for ice cream to celebrate Elvis’ birthday.

Uma, enjoying her ice cream.  Maybe I should have given her a bigger bowl?!

Enjoying the pool!

Enjoying the pool even more with our “adult capri suns” (If you haven’t tried these yet, you should! They are delicious!!)

On our way to the fireworks!

And, there you have it.  A little peek into our 4th of July.  What did you do to celebrate the 4th?

Enjoy your day,

Happy Birthday!

Look at that cute, little face!  Happy Birthday, Elvis!

Elvis is our only animal that we know the date of his birth.  We know that Uma was born in November 2005 and that Charlie was born in January 2006, but we don’t know the exact day.  So, we just sort of celebrate their birthdays some time during those months.  We don’t know when Oskar’s birthday is, but we adopted him in April, so we celebrate then.  And as for Sebastian, who knows!  We aren’t even sure how old he is, hehe.  We only know that he is giant and will keep getting bigger.  Yay!  I love giant, dog-like cats!  I’m hoping he’ll surpass mountain lion size and start to scare the neighborhood children.  Hey, everyone has goals.  This is mine.  Don’t judge.

Back to Elvis!

We do know Elvis’ birthday:  July 3, 2006.  So we celebrate!  Our doggy birthday celebrations usually include vanilla ice cream for the pups, accompanied by a brain freeze (They don’t understand how to stop eating ice cream.  They have this in common with k). And this year we’ll probably take them to our new, favorite dog park with the pond.  They love, love, love to swim!  I think that sounds like a pretty great birthday.  Maybe that’s what I’ll do for my birthday…eat ice cream and swim.  Maybe at the same time.  Hey, it’s my birthday and I can do what I want!  (K, take note of this.)

Happy birthday to Elvis and to all of you out there who are celebrating today!!  Especially Elvis’ brother, Presley!  Happy birthday, Presley!!

Enjoy your day,

Hello, we are {d&k} and we have a problem…

A BIG problem.

We have an addiction.

Sort of an unhealthy addiction.

To ice cream.

There, I said it.  Now, stop judging me.

I’m pretty sure this is why {d&k} fell in love.  It all started with the common love of that frozen goodness.

BUT, we found a way to make our addiction not quite as unhealthy…

We discovered Gooey’s!!!!!

Gooey’s is frozen yogurt.  Fat-free, sugar-free frozen yogurt.  It’s delicious and for 7 oz. (a medium size cup) it’s only 140 calories!  Yahoo!!!

This is fantastic.  However, this can also be fantastically bad.  This could lead our addiction into a downward spiral.  We might start eating more.  And more often.  Oh no.

Crap.  I guess we may never get over our addiction to ice cream.  We may have just added an additional addiction to frozen yogurt.  The title of this blog post should have been, “Hello, we are {d&k} and we have a problem.  We are addicted to ice cream AND frozen yogurt.”

Do you think there is a support group for that?!  I mean, I’m not really looking to fix this problem.  I’m okay with it.  I think k is too.  I just want everyone to know that if you see me rolling my 500 pound body down the street, this could be the cause.  Just a fyi.

Thanks for helping me through that, friends.  I’m glad I was able to talk to you about it.  Now, like I said, I’m not going to do anything about it.  I’m perfectly fine eating this frozen deliciousness of a treat, all.the.time.  But, again, thanks for listening to my problems.

Enjoy your day and go out and get some ice cream.  You deserve it!

Weekend Photo Overload

Hi there, friends!  As promised, here are quite a few photos from last weekend’s festivities. “Quite a few” is an understatement.  Enjoy!

First – The FOOD photos.  Try not to drool.

* Photo 1:  Black bean and cheese quesadillas. Yum.
* Photos 2 & 3:  Burgers from Twisted Root.  K did not want to pose for that photo…he just wanted to start eating.  Haha.  Sorry to delay you, k.
* Photo 4:  Our very large meal from the Mexican restaurant that didn’t have a menu.  No one told us how much food we would get and that we would have been fine sharing 2 meals between the 5 of us.  Oof.  Well, we know now.
* Photos 5 & 6:  More burgers.  And cheese fries.  Bestest had been looking forward to that moment for months.  She was a very happy and full girl.
* Photo 7:  That pizza was goooooood.  I didn’t even get a chance to take a picture before we started grabbing slices.  I almost lost a hand.  We are dangerous pizza eaters.
* Photos 8 & 9:  The best dessert evah.  Ice cream sandwiches!!  You choose 2 cookies (they can be the same or different) and your choice of ice cream and tadaaaa….best ice cream sandwich evah.  Bestest and I made everyone wait before digging in so we could have our photo-op.  We’re nice like that.

Next up – ANIMALS!  {d&k} took everyone to The Stockyards in Fort Worth, where DW could fit right in with his cowboy boots.  We also went to the Dallas Aquarium and had a blast!

* Photos 1 & 2:  D & bestest made friends with some horses at The Stockyards.
* Photo 3 – We met a few cowboys. Yeehaw!
* Photo 4 – We watched the cattle drive reenactment and that was my favorite long horn.  Isn’t he sweet!?
* Photo 5 – Sara fed a bird at the aquarium.  She was warned, “Don’t worry, he won’t bite” and seconds later he was trying to eat her thumb.  I think the aquarium needs to update their disclaimers!
* Photo 6 – My favorite little guy there…a blind penguin!  He was so sweet and didn’t move from that rock.  We were there in time for their feeding and he just waited patiently until the fish was right by his beak.  After he was done, he was tossed in the water for a swim and he just floated around, happy and full.  I really wanted to take him home but I didn’t bring a big enough purse.  Next time.
* Photos 7 & 8 –  The sea turtle and the manatee were very lively this time.  Both were swimming around and even stopped to pose for pictures.  Thanks, guys!!

Lastly – The RANDOMS

* Photo 1 – I am slightly obsessed with tying toys to Elvis’ head.  And then photographing it. I.can’t.help.it.
* Photo 2 – Bestest & {d&k} took their first trip to Half Price Books.  Oh.my.gosh.  Heaven.  K and I got 2 business books, 2 cookbooks (one was $10), and 3 novels for $40.  Are you kidding me?  I will be back, Half Price Books, I will.
* Photo 3 – We just had to have our picture with Elvis.  Not the dog. The King.
* Photo 4 – You know me…I always have to have a cute {d&k} photo in my Photo Overload posts.  You’re welcome.
* Photos 5 & 6 – K was sent to jail. Twice. Bad k, bad.
* Photo 7 – My parents, DW & B.  Aw.
* Photo 8 – K & Bestest mocking my parents.  Awkward.
* Photo 9 – Every once in a while k has to stop and ponder “things”.  Good thing there was a giant spur for him to ponder on.
* Photo 10 – Every once in a while k also has the urge to stop and “pose” with large long horns.  Good thing we were near a large long horn.

Well, friends.  There you have it.  That is what I documented from DW, B, and bestest trip to the Big D last weekend.  I hope you enjoyed looking at all of our fun. And food.

Thanks for stopping by!
Enjoy your day,

The random things I find on my phone

I love my phone.  Not for the phone part (in fact, I absolutely despise talking on the phone), but for the camera.  It’s nice that I always have it with me, unlike my camera, and can capture anything and everything.  While uploading photos to my computer, I found some goodies that I thought you all would enjoy.  See, I’m always thinking about you.  You should feel special.

{d&k} love leaving little bits of, well, {d&k} where ever they go.  Right in between a seahorse and a stegosaurus.  Normal. Totally normal.  By the way, in the time it took k to make the “d”, I had already finished the “k” and “+”.  Who’s quick at tin foil letters?  This girl. Oh yeah!

Why, who are those two cuties?  It’s {d&k}, of course!  Silly friends.  Did you forget which blog you were reading?  Don’t worry, I’ll always remind you with a photo.  If you stare at it long enough, we’ll be there when you blink.  You’re welcome.

Ice cream break.  Can you guess which one is mine?  SPRINKLES!  Although, that would have been even funnier if the one with the brightly colored sprinkles was k’s.  Hah.  Btw, don’t tell k this but, our next dog (not anytime soon, I’m not that crazy) will be named Sprinkles. Or Pickles.  Or Watson.  Possibly Wilson.  Crap, I thought I had it narrowed down.  Oh no, I forgot Chauncey B-B-B-Billups (it apparently makes the name more manly when you say it that way, just ask k).

The new bike rack we ordered arrived last weekend and we just had to try it out.  K was loading the bikes on and took off the little pouch he puts his keys in (that velcros under the seat – but k doesn’t like that I call it a pouch.  Is that not manly enough?  Pouch?  What else is it called?  Pouch.  Yes, it’s a pouch.  Now the word just sounds funny because I keep repeating it.  I’m no longer sure it is spelled correctly either.) and handed it to me.  Apparently I set it down on the bumper and forgot about it.  Oops.  And then we both got in the car and drove 20 minutes to the bike trail.  We get out of the car to unload the bikes, and what do you know?  That POUCH made it!!  I thought this was hilarious.  K, not so much.  Who knew that little, lightweight POUCH would stay on the bumper that whole time (even though k was driving…poor little POUCH must have been fearing for his life).

Pancakes for dinner? Why, yes please.  Mini, bite-sized pancakes for the pups? Why, yes please.  Guess who was mom-of-the-year?!  That’s right, ME!

Did you know that I have an Ewok?  Well, I do.  He doesn’t like pictures, but I managed to snap a quick one of him before he got upset.  Thanks for making an appearance, my little Ewok!

As soon as I sit on my bed, the zoo thinks it’s their responsibility to sit on me.  There’s Dog-Cat #1 (Charlie), Lump #1 is Oskar, Lump #2 is Elvis, and Uma all on me or touching me in some way.  My leg started to fall sleep.  And, I felt bad moving.  Look how cute and cozy they were.  I may have sat there for an hour.  But I can’t say for sure.  My leg still feels like its asleep a bit.

Look at the deer I caught staring at me from behind my computer.  Go away, deer, I’m working.  The deer did not go away.  In fact, the deer is looking at me right now.  What do you want, deer?

Since there are so many BYOB restaurants around here, and we are in on the little secret, we decided to replenish our wine stock.  It just so happens, the little market near us that I love was having a wine sale.  Now, their wine is pretty reasonable to begin with and I’m super cheap when it comes to wine (I like my wine less than $10 a bottle…I’m classy, I know.  I get this from my dad, dw. Thanks dw!).   We got 6 bottles of wine for, are you ready for this?….for $22.  Holy cow!  That is including tax, people.  Oh yeah!!

Brothers. Best friends.  They try to hide it.  And then, I find them cuddled up, using each other as a pillow.  So sweet.  I’m on to you, pugs.

Well, I hope you enjoyed my random phone photos.  Honestly, you never know what you are going to find on my phone.  I did tame down the zoo photos.  You’re welcome.

Enjoy your day,
