Family visits JR

Sorry for the lack of posts recently…we’ve been very busy around here.  The last two weekends, we’ve had family in town visiting and meeting JR for the first time.

We had a great time with my parents and K’s parents, and so did JR.  She loved being spoiled with cuddles from both sets of grandparents.  We are now recuperating and trying to get back into the swing of things before our next set of visitors come in 2 weeks (yay!).

Papa is comfy!

Enjoy your day,

I think it’s time for another countdown!

Yes, that’s right.  It has been way too long since our last countdown.  Here is what {d&k} are looking forward to:

12 days until Christmas (I feel a song coming on)

13 days until we are back in Ohio/Michigan to visit with family and friends (I’m sure I can think of a song for this too)

And, that’s it.  Now it seems pretty uneventful.  Only two things made the countdown.  Now, I could have given you our schedule of events while we are in Ohio and Michigan but I think that’s probably more information that you’re here looking for.  Am I right?!  So, we’ll leave it at that pitiful little countdown.

But yay for only 12 days until Christmas!  Seriously, where has the time gone?  Thankfully I’m finished with my Christmas shopping.  Now, all we have left is to ship a few things off.  Ooh, and make Christmas cookies.  That’s this weekends project.  Get excited for pictures.  And pack.  We’ll have to pack sometime soon.  But, then we are done and we get to enjoy our first Christmas together as a family (of 3, sort of).  Yay! We have a few Christmas traditions we’ve started over the years and I’m excited to add to those.  Yay for Christmas!

Yay for Christmas!!

Enjoy your day,

Before and After

Happy Labor Day weekend, friends!  I hope you got to enjoy the weekend, relax a bit, spend time with friends and family, and eat good food.  We did!

We had a ton going on this weekend, one being my office re-do.  Yippee!!

Here’s what I did this weekend:

Painted desk white.  It was black and I just want to brighten it up a bit.

Painted white chevron stripes on my black dresser.  Eep.  So excited for this!

Built 2 bookcases out of the free fruit crates.

Painted bookcases coral.  Yep, that’s right.  Coral!  It’s bright.  It’s fantastic.  So pumped!

Made curtains.  I bought 2 $12 drop cloths from Home Depot and I will be cutting and sewing to make 4 panels and painting a thick black stripe on them.  I’ll have a tutorial for you very soon.  Get excited!

Organize!  This might actually be my favorite part!  I know, I’m a nerd.

So, here are the before pictures:

Bookcases (well, actually just a pile of fruit crates, but use your imagination).

Ok, so I’m not going to show you the after just yet.  We’re building suspense here, people.  But, you should be very excited for the next few posts. Stay tuned.

Enjoy your day,

Thank You!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!  I had a wonderful birthday in Ohio, with friends and family.  And cake.  I had lots of cake.

{d&k} got into Ohio on Wednesday night and were greeted at the airport by k’s parents.  Then, we went to dinner at our favorite Ohio Mexican restaurant {yum}.  On Thursday, {d&k} ran errands, had lunch with friends, and then went to d’s parents for dinner and homemade birthday oreo cookies {yum}.  On Friday, {d&k} ran more errands (it’s amazing how much you have to do when you go home for a visit) and d got to take a birthday nap before meeting friends out for dinner and drinks.  Saturday d was coordinating a wedding all day and k got to spend the day with his parents, which included a trip to the Garrett Ranch to visit my parents and the mini donkeys.  Sunday, {d&k} went out for a birthday lunch with d’s parents, then to visit friends, and finished off their stay in Ohio with dinner at k’s parent’s house.  We had a jam-packed, fun-filled birthday weekend!  For those of you that I was able to visit with, I’m so happy we did!  For those of you that I didn’t get a chance to see, we’ll be back for Christmas…hopefully we can squeeze in something then.

I was a bad birthday blogger.  I managed to snap 3 pictures.  That’s it.  Sad.  Pitiful.  I’ll be better next year.

KT made me a birthday cake! Thanks, KT!  And, I can’t stop eating it.  Must.stop.eating.cake.  It was not my plan to gain 30 pounds on my 30th birthday.  But at this rate, that’s what it’s looking like.

{d&k} at d’s birthday dinner.

k bought d an electric sander for her birthday. Best. present. evah! Thanks, k! And for any one else, if you ever have to get me a gift, tools are always a good idea. Always. Watch out Bob Vila.

Now, it’s back to the real world.  Back to work.  Back to taking care of the dogs.  Back to eating healthy (oof, birthday weekends are full of bad food and cake.  Lots of cake).

And, I get to start on all my projects that have required an electric sander.   Like…refinishing my dining room table, 2 bedroom side tables (they NEED to be turquoise), and I’m sure I can find more.  Anyone need anything refinished or painted?  Bring it on over!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,

Vacation Photos, Take 3 (Yes, of course there are more photos)

You didn’t think I’d stop after the crabs, did you?!  Ha.  There are so, so many more photos to share.  I will limit them to one, or five more posts.  Just kidding.  Well, maybe.

Anyways, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I will post later on our fun adventures over the weekend with our guests.  I didn’t take as many pictures as I should have, but we were having way to much fun to stop and pose for a photo.  You understand, right?  Good.  So, let’s get on with the vacation photos…

Well, there you have it, friends.  {d&k}s family vacation to Ocracoke Island, North Carolina.  Yes, you should go there.  No, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for stopping by.  Enjoy your day,

{d&k} are baaaaaaaaaack!

Hello friends! {d&k} are back from vacation and can’t wait to share our vacation photos with you! Hang tight…I’ll have them up this week!

We had a great time on vacation. It was much needed. We haven’t had a vacation in about 2 years 😦 We had to cancel our vacation (to Key Largo, aw man!) to fly to Dallas to find a house. I’m not complaining, I just really missed vacation!

We went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We went to Ocracoke Island, which is about a 2.5 hour ferry ride from the main land. We rented a huge house and my parents and siblings were all there. It was so good to get my whole family together, under one roof, for an entire week! That never happens! I had so much fun with my nephews, and I know k did too! Those guys are too funny! The things that come out of their mouths!

Anyways, it’s nice to be back to my normal schedule, my own bed, and the zoo. But, I do miss the beach!

So, like I said, I will post vacation pictures this week. There are a lot, so you have that to look forward to, hehe.

And, guess what {d&k} have to look forward to?! d’s bestest and her family are coming into town this weekend! We can.not wait!! There will be a lot of playing at the pool (come on, it’s 106 degrees right now…what else are we gonna do?!) and staying inside in the air conditioning. But, we will have a fantastic time…we always do!  Ooh, and there will be lots of good food eaten.  Yes, that’s right.  Eaten.

Thanks for being so patient with {d&k} while we took our break from reality and technology the last couple of weeks.

Enjoy your day,

Yep, it’s that time again…

Time for another countdown!!!  Yippee!  This means {d&k} have exciting things coming up!

5 Days until I visit T in Phoenix (So this was super last minute…k got an email that Spirit Airlines was having a sale and that Phoenix was their featured city.  Well, conveniently T lives there and it’s been, oh, about a month since I’ve seen her (which is waaaayyyy too long) so k booked the flight for me.  For a round-trip, non-stop flight from Dallas to Phoenix it was….$60!  Are you kidding?!  So, look out Phoenix, here I come! (Well, in 5 days)

14 Days until Family Vacation in Outer Banks, North Carolina (I cannot wait to see everyone, especially my 2 nephews!  I will have plenty of stories and pictures…don’t you worry!)

27 Days until Bestest and her family are in Dallas (Again, it’s been a month since I’ve seen these guys and that’s waaaaayyyyy too long!)

39 Days until {d&k} are back in Ohio for a few days (d has a wedding to coordinate there and it’s my b-day, dun dun dun)

So, we have a ton of things to look forward to over the next 2 months.  We are so excited!  And, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Enjoy your day,

I’m here…

Hi friends!  So, sorry about being MIA all weekend.  I do have interesting things to post about, I swear.  It was just finding the time to post that seemed to be a problem.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and a nice, long weekend!  {d&k} did!  We have been very, very busy since returning to Ohio.  K actually leaves today to head back to the big D, while d is staying in Ohio for a few more weeks for work.  Sniff.  I will miss k.  And, I already miss the entire zoo.  But, k and I plan to Face Time every night and he promised he’s show me each member of the zoo 🙂  Yes!!!  I can’t wait to see their little, squishy faces.

Anyways, the last week has been filled with catching up with family.  We’ve quickly realized that there is not enough time to see everyone and the time you do have never seems to be enough.  So, we made do with the time we did have and tried to squeeze in as much family time as possible.

That also meant being in the car. A lot.  I’m not used to driving that much!  When we lived in Ohio, my office was in my neighborhood, less than a mile away.  And now, working from home in Dallas, I don’t really drive that much.  So, I feel as though the entire last week was spent in a car.  Oof.  But, thanks to my parents, we have had a car to zip around in.  It would have been a lot of walking, otherwise, hehe.

I will be posting more this week and I have pictures for you also.  And, I have a special treat for you all…a video!  Just you wait.  It’s pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.

Thanks for sticking around, even though the posts have been pitiful lately.  I promise, this week there will be plenty of posts to keep you satisfied and entertained for days to come 🙂  You’re welcome!

Enjoy your day,

I will totally jump in front of junk for you

Wow.  It’s Christmas week!  I can’t believe how quickly this year went by.  I have so much to do this week, eep.  K’s parents and little brother will be joining us for the holidays on Friday and the house is not ready yet.  You can’t even see the counters in my kitchen.  There may not even be counters in the kitchen, just hovering junk.  So, now it’s crunch time.  I’m sitting in my office, as I type this, and I can’t see my desk, craft table, or floor due to all the stuff on it.  I must get the house cleaned.  I will get the house cleaned.  I hope I get the house cleaned.  Or at least find spots to hide all the junk.  Closets. Cupboards. Under rugs.  Then, if anyone tries to open those closets, cupboards, or lift up a rug (I really hope no one lifts up any of my rugs. Weird.) I can launch myself in front of the doors, like I’m trying to protect them from a speeding bullet, and stop the junk from pouring out and burying them alive.  Wow.  Good thing I’ve been working out and have cat-like reflexes.  I can totally jump in front of the junk closet to save my in-laws.  Totally.  See, that’s how much I love my family.  I’m willing to throw my body in front of closets spewing junk.  You’re welcome.

This weekend {d&k} were pretty busy.  We went out with friends on Friday and Saturday night and got to explore new (to us) parts of the city.  Uptown was a lot of fun and the bars/restaurants all have outdoor areas and patios, which I love.  It was so nice on Friday night that we spent the entire evening sitting outside.  It was fun to people watch, both inside and outside of the bar.  {d&k} decided that we need friends more around our age because the group of people we were with on Friday night were pups.  I felt old.  Boo.  Anyways, Saturday we ran some errands, took the pups to the dog park, and then joined more friends out in Uptown for drinks.  We were thoroughly amused by the Dallas Rugby Team that evening, including a young man who wore a fanny pack to keep track of his wallet.  K and I like to play “How many fanny packs” while traveling.  K usually wins.  He can spot those things from a mile away.  Anyways, he tells me he sees “one” while were standing in a circle with our friends, so then all of us start searching for the fanny pack.  It turns out it was on a large, very drunk, rugby player.  Not who I was expecting to be sporting a fanny pack, but hilarious none-the-less.  Sunday we spent all morning in the kitchen baking.  We made a little bit of everything, cupcakes, cookies, bark, cake balls, you name it, we made it.  K took everything to work to hand out as gifts.  I hope everyone liked their treats…a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into making those (mostly from k…he’s not very graceful in the kitchen).  Then, Sunday afternoon we decided to explore a few more areas of the city.  We went to Deep Ellum and loved it!  We heard it was not the best neighborhood and that we shouldn’t go there after dark without a gun.  So I was thinking there were gangs and violence, drug deals, etc.  Ha, not so much.   It was filled with pink hair, hipsters, and tattoos.  Not scary at all.  We went to a burger place that had the best turkey burger I’ve ever had.  Turkey burgers are one of my favorite foods, so I’m always on the hunt for a great one.  And, I found it.  I can’t wait to take my dad there when he visits in February…he will love it!  We wandered around that part of town for a bit, stumbled upon another dog park, and then went into a few thrift & antique stores.  I can’t wait to go back!  We then headed to the Bishop Arts District and wandered around there.  I had been to this area before and absolutely loved it, so I couldn’t wait to go back.  They have a lot of neat little boutiques and cafes, and it is very quaint for being right outside of downtown.  We went into a doggie store and met the owner and her two pooches, one of which looked exactly like an Ewok. (The dog. Not the owner.  However, I would love to meet a real-life Ewok. Do you know of any?)  So, that was our weekend.

Random silliness from {d&k}:
{k} –  Don’t touch those yet, my balls aren’t dry.
{d} –  {giggle}
{k} –  Cake balls.  My cake balls aren’t dry yet.
{d} –  {giggle}
{k} –  I hate you.

{k} – Stop touching me with your feet.  I don’t like it.
{d} – Sorry, sometimes they itch.
{k} – Well, find some other way to scratch them.  Stop using me as your random rubbing bar.
{d} – AHAHAHAHAH Hahaha ha.  Random rubbing bar.  Hahaha.
{k} – Shut up. You know what I mean.
Hours later…
{k} – Scratching post!
{d} – What?
{k} – I meant scratching post.  Not rubbing bar.  I knew I’d think of it.

K showed me a video on YouTube of cats yawning while people made the sound effects.  It was hilarious.  The funny thing is, I always make the sound effects for the cats and dogs while they yawn.  Why didn’t I ever think to record it?  Man, people always beat me to it.  Someday, I will have a very funny video on YouTube.  Just you wait.  If you’d like to watch the yawning cats, click here.  Ooh, and if you are bored and want to see my 2 favorite videos of all time (I know, they are that good), click here and here.  Yes, they are all of cats. Deal.

Enjoy your day!

Moving Right Along…

Yes, yes we have been moving right along. Almost all of the packing is done except for a few randoms in each room that will inevitably be thrown into one box, most likely labeled “master bedroom”. I started off really well with the whole packing-in-an-organized-manner-to-make-it-easier-to-unpack theory. Then stress and fear of not finishing in time sunk in. So the packing now is more like throw a handful of items in a box (doesn’t matter from what room) and label “master bedroom”. I branched out and even labeled some boxes “living room”. There were even a few times during my fury of packing evenings I almost packed up a cat. Good thing I gave those boxes one more look before taping! That’s one way to get Charlie there.

Last night we also took a very romantical (trust me, it’s a word…just look it up in the Dictionary-o-Dani) mini date. We started by catching the last hour of the UT women’s basketball game, where we sat in front of the most frightening fans evah! I was scared for my life. Then, we went to a very fancy, gourmet restaurant called Jimmy Johns and oh-so-sweetly wolfed down our food. I’m pretty sure the employees thought we hadn’t eaten in days! Hot. Let me tell you. And then we went home, I worked on my last Etsy order and k removed the shelves in the kitchen. And friends, that’s date night. It’s how we roll. Try not to be jealous.

In other news, today is my last day physically at my office. For those of you that don’t know, I will be keeping my job and working from home in Dallas. I can see it now…me in my pjs with a pugeranian snuggled up to my left, a pug on my right, and a dog-cat on my lap with the computer. That’s what it looks like in my head anyways. In reality it will be me on the couch (because, who really works from their desk at home?) in the middle of an epic battle between The Puffy-Tailed Pugeranian, The Snot-Nosed Grumpy Pug, and Charles the Dog-Cat Mullan!!!!!! (imagine those were all said in k’s announcer voice for added drama). I would be hunched over the computer, protecting it, flailing my legs to keep the animals away, all while trying to protect my head because for some reason, during epic battles, the animals use my head as home base. And, let’s just hope no one comes to the door while I’m working from home, in my pjs, now with a ratty nest of hair that the dogs so lovingly helped me style. Hmmm, maybe this whole working from home thing sounds a little better in my head.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and our last big par-tay before leaving on Sunday. We will be going to 3 (yes THREE) dinners and will probably eat so much we’ll want to explode, but not enough to keep me from wanting a snack when we get home. Just a little one. Maybe a bag of popcorn? I mean, not the whole bag…k will eat a handful to make me feel better about eating the entire bag. We are very excited to see all of our family and spend time with everyone before we leave. But, it comes with a warning: if there are tears, I WILL punch you in the face. No tears. I am super emotional and do not want to cry, thankyouverymuch. So, just to summarize for you…TEARS = PUNCH IN FACE. Questions?

Enjoy your day,
