Fancy Photos

Little Miss JR had a fancy newborn photo shoot with Jamie from View La La Photography a few weeks ago.  If you are in the DFW area and are in need of a photographer, Jamie is your girl!  She did a fantastic job photographing Juliet and I almost cry every time I look at these photos (stupid hormones!).

Here’s a little preview:

Ok, that was a BIG preview, but I couldn’t just choose a few. I mean, seriously, look at how cute these pictures are! Now comes the hard part of choosing which ones to print, frame, and hang around the house. I don’t have room for all of them. I may have to rotate on a weekly or monthly basis.

Thanks for stopping by and listening to me ramble on about JR!
Enjoy your day,

K’s birthday

Hey everyone!

K’s birthday celebration weekend was fantastic!  We had a great time all weekend together.  I love K’s birthday more than my own, so by Thursday I was chomping at the bit to give him his birthday presents.  I bought them weeks before and they were sitting there in my office, taunting me everyday.  I’m actually surprised I managed to wait until two days before his birthday to give in.  And, I decided to give K his gifts early due to a little conversation we had in the car Thursday on the way home from dinner.  It went a little something like this:

{Justin Timberlake song playing on the radio}
K – Did you know JT is coming to American Airlines Center?
D – No way!  Really?  When?
K – In December.  His tickets sold out in 25 minutes!!
D – Oh man, that’s crazy.  Well, looks like we’ll have to catch him next time around.  I didn’t even know he was going to be in town.
K – Yeah.  Everyone at work was talking about how they tried to get tickets but they sold out so fast.
D – Well, it is JT.  What can you do?!

{D&K arrive home minutes later.}
D – Ok, so I feel like I should give you one of your presents early.
K – Ooookkkkkkk.  You know I won’t say no.
D – Ok, here you go.  I thought that since we recently had a conversation about this, it was appropriate to give you it now.
K – {Opening a small envelope containing 2 tickets to see Justin Timberlake at American Airlines Center in December.}  WHAT?  HOLY COW!!  How did you get these?!
{K running over to hug D.}
K – Seriously…how did you get these?  They sold out in 25 minutes.  You are the best wife ever.

Hehe, I am the best wife ever!  I saw a friend’s Facebook post about scoring tickets to the JT concert.  Someone commented asking how she got them early.  She said she signed up to be on the mailing list and they gave her a special code for presale tickets.  Ok, don’t mind if I do.  At that time, I didn’t even know he was on tour in Dallas or when the show was.  So, I hopped on his website and did a little research.  I found out he’d be here in December and that day his tickets went up for presale with the special code.  So, I signed up for the newsletter and got my code.  Then, I sat on the stupid Ticketmaster website for about half the day, hitting refresh every few minutes trying to get tickets.  Ugh.  It was painful and pretty much impossible.  Eventually, the website switched to “sold out.”  Sniff.  Then, I notice on the website that you can purchase presale tickets the next day if you use your MasterCard.  Apparently, MasterCard is sponsoring JT and had a set amount of presale tickets set aside.  Our bank card is a MasterCard, but I wasn’t planning on using that to buy the tickets because I didn’t want K to see if he logged into to check the bank account.  But, if I wanted these tickets, that was my only way.  I knew if I waited for the tickets to go on sale for everyone, I wouldn’t be able to get any.  So, I got up early the next day and tried again.  Again, I sat at the computer hitting refresh, waiting for tickets.  Finally, in the second tier of tickets (I was hoping for the cheap seats, haha), some opened up and I scooped them up.  Just as I’m about to enter my credit card info, I get an error message, saying that Ticketmaster’s website is experiencing technical difficulties and to try again.  NOOOOOOO!  This basically happened about 5 more times.  I almost gave up.  Then, on my next try, those tickets were still available and I was able to enter my credit card info without any error messages.  Success!  I just scored 2 tickets for my baby for his birthday.  YES!  Best wife ever.  Then, panic set in.  I quickly went on to our bank website to check the account to see how the purchase showed up on there.  Sure enough, it said “Justin Timberlake” on there.  Crap.  Now what?!  This was almost 2 weeks before his birthday.  How was I going to keep him from looking at the bank account?!  So, I sent K a text telling him that if he looked at the bank account anytime before his birthday, I would cut off both hands, which would inevitably leave him unable to speak (because he talks with his hands, hehe).  He agreed to stay away from the bank account, but I was paranoid for those 2 weeks.  Then, on that Thursday before his birthday when he brought up JT’s concert, I almost died.  I thought for sure he had logged onto the bank account and saw my purchase.  But, he was a good boy and he did not log on at all.  He had no idea what I was up to and was honestly surprise.  YES!

So, that is my story about how I got K a fantastic birthday present.  I probably should have mentioned that K LOVES JT.  I mean LOVES him.  So, this will be an awesome show to take K to.  I cannot wait.

So, since I gave K his gifts early, Saturday (his actual birthday) wasn’t as exciting since he had nothing to open.  We made the best of it though.  K volunteered that morning, serving breakfast to the homeless.  Yes, how sweet is my husband that he volunteers on his birthday?!  Love him!  Then, we went out to lunch for pizza at Grimaldi’s.  (If you haven’t been here, go. Now.  So.good).  And, we spent the rest of the afternoon driving around Dallas looking at multi-million dollar homes.  There are so, so many.  It is so much fun and really depressing at the same time, haha.  Then, we headed up to Frisco to a Roughriders baseball game, in the 95 degree heat.  Too bad they didn’t win.  I think we are bad luck.  That’s our 3rd RRs game and they’ve lost all 3.  Get it together, boys.  All in all, it was a pretty good birthday.  We had a ton of fun and spent the next day sleeping in and catching up on sleep.  Happy birthday weekend, K!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,

Weekend recovery

Hi friends!

How was your weekend?

K was out-of-town for work, so it was just the zoo and me.  And, I had the privilege of coordinating another beautiful wedding here in Dallas on Saturday.  The bride and groom were wonderful and we all had a fantastic time.  However, I am still recovering from it.  This preggo can’t quite recover from 13 hours on her feet like she used to. (And 13 hours is a short wedding day).  Normally, I’d sleep in the Sunday after a wedding (and by sleep in, I mean like 8 or 9) and then I’d be good to go.  Well, I slept in until 8, then had to pick up the pups from the dog sitter, pick up K from the airport, and run a few errands.  I did take a small nap that afternoon, but it wasn’t the same.  It did not help.  So, I spent all day yesterday moping around, exhausted.  But, I think I may be back to my normal self today.  It’s still too early to tell.  Haha.

And, that was the extent of our weekend here.  K had a great trip and just as he’s back, I’m leaving this weekend.  Yep, that’s right.  I’m heading to Ohio/Michigan for a quick trip.  K got the bestest and me Matchbox Twenty tickets for Christmas and, since they are our favorite band, we are pumped to see them (again.  for like the 12th time.  but who’s counting.  I mean, come on…it’s Rob Thomas!  Eep).

I have a ton of things to do this week…including tracking down some sort of shirt that fits me.  Maternity clothes are so ugly.  Anyone else agree?  Seriously.  Why do these designers want us to look fat AND ugly?  I don’t get it.  And, since I’ve held off this long on buying any maternity shirts, my shirts are slowly getting too short and I have begun flashing everyone as I walk.  Or get up.  Or move in any slight way.  So, I’m on the hunt for something cute and cheap.  I am a bargain shopper.  I do not spend a lot of money on clothes.  I like my sale racks.  So, I refuse to spend $30 or more on an ugly maternity shirt that I am only going to wear for 4 more months.  Hrmph.

Wow, this post has turned very random.  Sorry about that.  It’s just been so long since I’ve posted and I, apparently, have a lot to say.

So, my to-do list for this week consists of:
spending time with K before I leave him this weekend
finding something decent to wear out of the house (yoga pants and K’s sweat shirts are only acceptable IN the house)
packing (which is going to be difficult since it is cold in Ohio and 70* here, and I don’t have a winter coat that fits)
and, there is a whole lot more, but these are the main things — wish me luck!

And, K and I are celebrating Valentine’s Day tomorrow (Yay!) with a nice dinner out to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I cannot wait.  I love carbs even more now that I’m pregnant.  Yay carbs!  Nothing says “Happy Valentine’s Day” like carbs.  And candy.  K, did you hear that.  Candy.  No flowers.  I can’t eat flowers.

Well, I hope you are all having a lovely week.  And, I hope that you have all recovered nicely from the weekend!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

A little late

Hey there!  So, I’m a little late for posting our Halloween and end of October adventures, but better late than never.  So, here you go!

We took a little trip to the Arboretum last weekend with some friends to see the Chihuly glass exhibit.  And, to our surprise, they had a pumpkin exhibit too.  Bonus!  Here’s what we saw:

The Arboretum was beautiful! Since we had never been there, I didn’t realize what part of town it was in. I had no idea that it overlooked one of our favorite places, White Rock Lake. We will definitely be going back there. And, I just heard that they decorate for Christmas. Eep! Looks like a trip back will be sooner than we thought.

I have more to share with you about our Halloween and other adventures, so stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

And now it’s gone

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes!  {d&k} had a great time last night.  K took d out to dinner at their favorite restaurant, Spaghetti Warehouse.  We’ve been there every year on our anniversary.  We don’t eat pasta all that often, so when we do it should be a splurge for a special occasion.  And trust me, we ate last night!  Oof.

After dinner we wandered around downtown Dallas for a bit, realizing it is still too hot here for an evening stroll.  When we got home, we loaded the couch up with the pups and cuddled in for a tv show and wine.  It was a pretty wonderful anniversary, if I do say so myself.

And now, just like that, it’s over.  Back to normal.  Another wonderful year of being married ahead of us.

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

{d&k} are baaaaaaaaaack!

Hello friends! {d&k} are back from vacation and can’t wait to share our vacation photos with you! Hang tight…I’ll have them up this week!

We had a great time on vacation. It was much needed. We haven’t had a vacation in about 2 years 😦 We had to cancel our vacation (to Key Largo, aw man!) to fly to Dallas to find a house. I’m not complaining, I just really missed vacation!

We went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We went to Ocracoke Island, which is about a 2.5 hour ferry ride from the main land. We rented a huge house and my parents and siblings were all there. It was so good to get my whole family together, under one roof, for an entire week! That never happens! I had so much fun with my nephews, and I know k did too! Those guys are too funny! The things that come out of their mouths!

Anyways, it’s nice to be back to my normal schedule, my own bed, and the zoo. But, I do miss the beach!

So, like I said, I will post vacation pictures this week. There are a lot, so you have that to look forward to, hehe.

And, guess what {d&k} have to look forward to?! d’s bestest and her family are coming into town this weekend! We can.not wait!! There will be a lot of playing at the pool (come on, it’s 106 degrees right now…what else are we gonna do?!) and staying inside in the air conditioning. But, we will have a fantastic time…we always do!  Ooh, and there will be lots of good food eaten.  Yes, that’s right.  Eaten.

Thanks for being so patient with {d&k} while we took our break from reality and technology the last couple of weeks.

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Yep, it’s that time again…

Time for another countdown!!!  Yippee!  This means {d&k} have exciting things coming up!

5 Days until I visit T in Phoenix (So this was super last minute…k got an email that Spirit Airlines was having a sale and that Phoenix was their featured city.  Well, conveniently T lives there and it’s been, oh, about a month since I’ve seen her (which is waaaayyyy too long) so k booked the flight for me.  For a round-trip, non-stop flight from Dallas to Phoenix it was….$60!  Are you kidding?!  So, look out Phoenix, here I come! (Well, in 5 days)

14 Days until Family Vacation in Outer Banks, North Carolina (I cannot wait to see everyone, especially my 2 nephews!  I will have plenty of stories and pictures…don’t you worry!)

27 Days until Bestest and her family are in Dallas (Again, it’s been a month since I’ve seen these guys and that’s waaaaayyyyy too long!)

39 Days until {d&k} are back in Ohio for a few days (d has a wedding to coordinate there and it’s my b-day, dun dun dun)

So, we have a ton of things to look forward to over the next 2 months.  We are so excited!  And, I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Happy to be back!

I’m so happy to be back in Dallas.  I missed k and the zoo so much!   A month is way too long to be without them!  Never again.

Before k left Ohio to come back to Dallas, KT told him that she expected a proper welcome home.  Complete with a banner, cookie cake, and margaritas.  We did not think k would remember this.  But, to our surprise, we walked into the house to a welcome home banner, a cookie cake, and a pitcher of margaritas.  Yay k!

k, is amazing!  Thanks for giving us a wonderful welcome home, k!

And, the pups were very welcoming too!  Elvis hardly stopping wiggling long enough for this photo:

I’m glad to get back to my normal routine.  I’m glad to be not so busy.  This last month kicked my butt.  I could hibernate for a month to catch up on sleep.  I jumped right back in where I left off with life here in Dallas and it feels great!  Things already feel “back to normal” and I’m catching up on things I’ve missed – cleaning, playing with the pups, working out, cooking.  It is going to be a great summer!  A hot one, but still great!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

I’m Baaaaaaaack!!

I’m back!

Back to Dallas.

Back to blogging.

I’m so sorry about the last month.  I was super busy and between working in the office, coordinating 4 weddings, and all the driving I was doing (I’m not used to driving from the country into the “city” — it takes for-ev-er), blogging fell behind.

But, I’m back now and I have lots to share with you!

Let’s start with the drive back to the big D and then, over the next week I’ll fill you in on all the things I did and people I saw while in Ohio & Michigan.  Sound like a plan?  Good!

The drive back to Dallas had been planned for a while and we knew that we were taking KT’s car.  So, then came the fun part (for KT) trying to figure out what she wanted to pack, since we only had a 4 door car to work with and we had to leave room for the 2 of us and Gabby-the-cat.  Oh, and I should mention that I had 2 large suitcases.  Oops.  I didn’t quite think that through when I packed for a month.  Don’t judge.  A month is a long time, people.  And, I’m a girl.  That means lots of shoes, thankyouverymuch.

So, once we determined what to bring, the next step was getting it to fit in the car.  It was the worst game of Tetris evah!  But, we won!  We are the car Tetris champions!!  This is mostly due to Space Bags.  Have you heard of them?  If not, you HAVE to try them.  They are amazing.  See for yourself:

Here, we have 2 full size pillows.  Prepare to be amazed…

Same 2 pillows in a much more manageable size!  I think we will be using these bags for vacation!
(I, in no way, benefit from recommending Space Bags.  I just wanted to let you in on a new little packing secret!)

Ok, so now that the car was packed, all we had left to do was give Gabby-the-cat her “sleeping” pill and we were off.  We did the majority of the driving the first day, leaving about 7 hours for us to finish up on the second day.  This time around was much easier since we stopped overnight.  I don’t think I will want to drive straight through ever again.  We also took a different route this time because Ohio is such a long state and I didn’t want to drive through it.  Instead, we headed west to Indiana, though part of Illinois, Missouri, and then the long part of the trip was through Arkansas.  We drove about 130 miles in to Arkansas before we called it a night on day 1.  We stayed in a little town in Arkansas and, of course, had to smuggle the cat into the hotel.  It was either stay at the Hampton Inn or stay next door at the Bates Motel with the outside entrances and risk our lives just to be able to take the cat in directly to the room.  We choose the Hampton Inn cat extraction plan – aka, option 1.  We were quite pleased with ourselves after scoping out the hotel, dropping a load off in the room, then sneakily, Mission Impossible style, ran around the outside perimeter of the hotel looking for another entrance that was close to our room.  Thankfully, our room was almost to the end of a wing and on the 2nd level, far from the front desk.  We were also close to a stairwell that led to a side door, which we conveniently parked next to.  And, to our benefit, Gabby-the-cat is black and KT just happened to have a black sweatshirt in the car.  Success!  We’ll just wrap the cat in the sweatshirt, load up my arms with bags and a pillow, and no one will ever know there is a teeny-tiny 7 pound cat in there too.  Success!  We made it into the hotel room and had ourselves a little party, complete with cat food and pizza!  (The cat food was for Gabby-the-cat, not us.  I think that was self-explanatory but sometimes you never know).

The next morning we had to do the same thing.  We did it the exact same way as the night before and cat extraction 2012 was successful!  Go us!  The weird thing was when we left the hotel side door and were rounding the corner to our car, we saw 3 black cats, all with white patches on their chests, along with 3 black and white cats, all sitting near our car.  It was bizarre.  Why were there so many cats?  Why did they all look-alike?  Why were they in sets of 3?  There are still so many unanswered questions!

I digress.  Back to the drive.  So, we determined every state we went through looked the same.  Corn fields.  Grain fields.  Fields upon fields.  I took pictures of each state, but honestly I’m not sure which state each is from because they all look the same.  It was very boring scenery.  We did get to cross the Mississippi River in Missouri, which was a highlight of the trip.  Neither of us had ever been to it before.  We had also never been to Missouri.  Again, not that exciting of a highlight, but one none the less.  And, answer this for me…Can you name another city in Arkansas besides Little Rock?  Me either!  I can now that I’ve driven through the state, but they are still not cities I’d heard of before driving through.  Weird.

I’m so far into this very random post and I honestly have no idea where I’m going with it.  Basically, we had a fun, uneventful, corn field filled, two-day trip with a drugged up cat.  How is that different from any other day here at {d&k}s blog?

I will leave you with a few pictures and some funny, random things heard while in the car with d & KT.

Beginning of the trip.  Still in Michigan and getting ready to leave on day 1.

I think this is Indiana.  Maybe Ohio.  Well, it could also be Illinois, Missouri, or Arkansas.  Basically this was our view for 18 hours.

The Mississippi River.

KT – Get your camera ready.  There’s a giant bunny on the side of the road!
{d} – What?!

KT – THERE’S A PLANE COMING RIGHT FOR US!!!!!!
{d} – WHAT?!?!
KT – Nevermind, it went behind a tree.

KT – …Alligators and swamps…
{d} – What?!

KT – I know you think they are scary, but bird flight patterns are fascinating.  They are so coordinated!
{d} – What?!

KT – LOOK!  Those trees look like cacti!
{d} – What?!

{KT} –  Wow, this city has an archaeological museum too!
{d} – Nope, same one…just an advertisement.

Do you see the pattern here?  KTs random yellings.  All happening while I was driving and I had no clue what she was talking about.  I’m pretty sure, aside from the bunny, these all happened in Arkansas.  Apparently that state makes KT  a little crazy.

I’m so happy to be back!  Back to Dallas.  Back to blogging.  I hope you are happy I’m back too!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

What have {d&k} been up to?

I’m glad you asked!  {d&k} have been very, very busy the last few days…

{d&k} celebrated k’s birthday on Friday.  And d’s brother, Big E, was in town.  First, {d&k} went to pick up k’s first birthday present….a new car! (Said in my best Price is Right announcer voice.)  We had been wanting to trade in k’s car for a while and had been shopping around a bit when we found a cute little, black Nissan Altima that was perfect for us.  So, Friday we stopped by the dealership to sign the final paperwork and take her home.  Yay!

Next, we all went to pick up k’s second birthday present…a new basketball hoop!  (Again, announcer voice).  He’s been wanting one for awhile and I was waiting for the perfect time to give it to him and since he’s been playing basketball 3 times a week at the school, I thought this was it!  Well, I don’t know anything about basketball hoops, backboard style and size, and all of that.  So, my best option was to take k to pick it out.  Not very much fun to “open” though.  But, I did wrap up a new basketball that the pugs so lovingly picked out and had him open that before we picked out the hoop.

After shopping, we all went out for Mexican (what else?!) and then went back home to put the hoop together.  Big E and k spent about 2 hours putting the hoop together and then another 2 hours playing on it.  They didn’t come in until 1am!  I think they had a blast.  The remainder of the weekend’s free time was spent playing basketball.  Yay for a great gift idea!

Before we got to enjoy k’s birthday weekend, we had the “pleasure” of trying to register our cars and get new Texas driver’s licenses.  What a horrible, horrible, time we had.  First, I googled where to go for a new driver’s license and it sent us to the DMV location nearest us (which wasn’t really that near).  When we got there (before it opens) and waited in line, the women at the desk tells us we are in the wrong place and that we have to go to the other end of town.  Ok, then what exactly are these other 20 people waiting in line for?  What does the DMV in Texas do?!?

Then we drive across town (and it’s Dallas, so it is not a short trip) to the Department of Public Safety and we wait in a really, really long line, only to find out we have to have our cars registered before we can get our licenses.  What?!  Then we tell the lady that the website first sent us to the DMV and didn’t say anything about registering your car first and she said, “Oh yeah, the website is wrong.”  Thanks, lady.  You’re very helpful.  And so it your WRONG website.  Ugh.

So, back in the car we went.  We drove across town (closer to where we live) again and went to register our cars.  Thankfully, the line wasn’t that long and the lady that helped us was very nice (something we had not been used to thus far).  Now that we had already wasted 4 hours, over 2 days trying to get this stuff done, it was time to go back to get our licenses.  We waited until Friday morning to do this, so we could get there at 7:30, before they opened at 8am, and get in line.  Well, a line was waiting for us.  We were probably 25 people deep, oi.  So we wait, and wait, and wait.  Finally get in the door and “check in”, only to wait more.  We’re finally called back and have to show our Ohio id’s, our birth certificates, social security cards, and practically give them blood for them to believe it’s us, before they give us a Texas license.  I’m confused by this.  People can walk into a store and buy a gun and go to war with less documentation.  And, after all of that, they gave us an 8.5×11 sheet of paper with what our license will look like until we get it in the mail.  Seriously?  So after 6.5 hours over 3 days, we get a piece of paper?!  You should have seen us trying to get into a bar on Saturday night to celebrate k’s b-day.  They looked at us like we were nuts with this huge sheet of paper, trying to pass it off as our id.  Then, even though our picture is on it, they didn’t believe us, so we had to show them something else with our picture on it.  Well, the only other thing we had were our Costco cards.  Haha.  They eventually let us in.  Good Lord!  And, I was terrified to try to go through airport security with that, which of course, was no problem at all.  Strange? Yes.  No, you can’t come into my hole-in-the-wall-bar, but sure, hop on a plane across the country.  Enjoy your flight!

And, that transitions me into…we are back in Ohio!  {d&k} are back home visiting friends & family, and d has 4 weddings to coordinate {happy dance}.  I’m already missing my zoo, but they are in good hands.  I just hope they are behaving.  Sneaky little weasels.

So, that is what we’ve been up to.  I have pictures of k’s birthday, and I’ll post those soon.

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}
