K’s birthday

Hey everyone!

K’s birthday celebration weekend was fantastic!  We had a great time all weekend together.  I love K’s birthday more than my own, so by Thursday I was chomping at the bit to give him his birthday presents.  I bought them weeks before and they were sitting there in my office, taunting me everyday.  I’m actually surprised I managed to wait until two days before his birthday to give in.  And, I decided to give K his gifts early due to a little conversation we had in the car Thursday on the way home from dinner.  It went a little something like this:

{Justin Timberlake song playing on the radio}
K – Did you know JT is coming to American Airlines Center?
D – No way!  Really?  When?
K – In December.  His tickets sold out in 25 minutes!!
D – Oh man, that’s crazy.  Well, looks like we’ll have to catch him next time around.  I didn’t even know he was going to be in town.
K – Yeah.  Everyone at work was talking about how they tried to get tickets but they sold out so fast.
D – Well, it is JT.  What can you do?!

{D&K arrive home minutes later.}
D – Ok, so I feel like I should give you one of your presents early.
K – Ooookkkkkkk.  You know I won’t say no.
D – Ok, here you go.  I thought that since we recently had a conversation about this, it was appropriate to give you it now.
K – {Opening a small envelope containing 2 tickets to see Justin Timberlake at American Airlines Center in December.}  WHAT?  HOLY COW!!  How did you get these?!
{K running over to hug D.}
K – Seriously…how did you get these?  They sold out in 25 minutes.  You are the best wife ever.

Hehe, I am the best wife ever!  I saw a friend’s Facebook post about scoring tickets to the JT concert.  Someone commented asking how she got them early.  She said she signed up to be on the mailing list and they gave her a special code for presale tickets.  Ok, don’t mind if I do.  At that time, I didn’t even know he was on tour in Dallas or when the show was.  So, I hopped on his website and did a little research.  I found out he’d be here in December and that day his tickets went up for presale with the special code.  So, I signed up for the newsletter and got my code.  Then, I sat on the stupid Ticketmaster website for about half the day, hitting refresh every few minutes trying to get tickets.  Ugh.  It was painful and pretty much impossible.  Eventually, the website switched to “sold out.”  Sniff.  Then, I notice on the website that you can purchase presale tickets the next day if you use your MasterCard.  Apparently, MasterCard is sponsoring JT and had a set amount of presale tickets set aside.  Our bank card is a MasterCard, but I wasn’t planning on using that to buy the tickets because I didn’t want K to see if he logged into to check the bank account.  But, if I wanted these tickets, that was my only way.  I knew if I waited for the tickets to go on sale for everyone, I wouldn’t be able to get any.  So, I got up early the next day and tried again.  Again, I sat at the computer hitting refresh, waiting for tickets.  Finally, in the second tier of tickets (I was hoping for the cheap seats, haha), some opened up and I scooped them up.  Just as I’m about to enter my credit card info, I get an error message, saying that Ticketmaster’s website is experiencing technical difficulties and to try again.  NOOOOOOO!  This basically happened about 5 more times.  I almost gave up.  Then, on my next try, those tickets were still available and I was able to enter my credit card info without any error messages.  Success!  I just scored 2 tickets for my baby for his birthday.  YES!  Best wife ever.  Then, panic set in.  I quickly went on to our bank website to check the account to see how the purchase showed up on there.  Sure enough, it said “Justin Timberlake” on there.  Crap.  Now what?!  This was almost 2 weeks before his birthday.  How was I going to keep him from looking at the bank account?!  So, I sent K a text telling him that if he looked at the bank account anytime before his birthday, I would cut off both hands, which would inevitably leave him unable to speak (because he talks with his hands, hehe).  He agreed to stay away from the bank account, but I was paranoid for those 2 weeks.  Then, on that Thursday before his birthday when he brought up JT’s concert, I almost died.  I thought for sure he had logged onto the bank account and saw my purchase.  But, he was a good boy and he did not log on at all.  He had no idea what I was up to and was honestly surprise.  YES!

So, that is my story about how I got K a fantastic birthday present.  I probably should have mentioned that K LOVES JT.  I mean LOVES him.  So, this will be an awesome show to take K to.  I cannot wait.

So, since I gave K his gifts early, Saturday (his actual birthday) wasn’t as exciting since he had nothing to open.  We made the best of it though.  K volunteered that morning, serving breakfast to the homeless.  Yes, how sweet is my husband that he volunteers on his birthday?!  Love him!  Then, we went out to lunch for pizza at Grimaldi’s.  (If you haven’t been here, go. Now.  So.good).  And, we spent the rest of the afternoon driving around Dallas looking at multi-million dollar homes.  There are so, so many.  It is so much fun and really depressing at the same time, haha.  Then, we headed up to Frisco to a Roughriders baseball game, in the 95 degree heat.  Too bad they didn’t win.  I think we are bad luck.  That’s our 3rd RRs game and they’ve lost all 3.  Get it together, boys.  All in all, it was a pretty good birthday.  We had a ton of fun and spent the next day sleeping in and catching up on sleep.  Happy birthday weekend, K!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

32.

That’s how old K is today.

Happy, Happy Birthday, K!

If you remember my post for his birthday last year, you’ll know I shared with you 31 reasons why I love him.  Well, I decided to take this on again this year.  These are in no particular order…just the order they popped into my head.

32 Reasons Why I Love my K:

1 – I love how excited he is for Mini Mullan.  Every day, he tells me he wants her now.  No more waiting.  Baby now.

2 – I love how I already know that he will be a wonderful dad.  He is so caring, sweet, thoughtful, gentle, and considerate.  Plus, he cannot wait to be wrapped around Mini Mullan’s little finger.  He is thrilled to have a little daddy’s girl.

3 – I love how much he complains about the zoo, but every once in a while I’ll look over and he’ll be cuddled up next to one on the couch, sweetly petting their little head.  Or, I’ll catch him giving a cat a kiss on the head.  He talks a big game, but he’s a softy when it comes to his fur-babies.

4 – I love how he starts taking off random clothes the minute he walks in the door from work.  I find ties and belts all over the house.  And, I’m not sure how this happened, but I found a pair of shorts on the back of the couch the other day.  K, keep your clothes on!

5 – I love how passionate K is about his job.  He loves it and puts everything he has into it.

6 – I love how K gets into his magical thinking machine (aka, the shower) and comes out with new commercials for Pepsi, new products that will make him a million dollars (I can’t tell you any of these incase they are really good ideas), and new ideas that will solve all of the world’s problems.  Magic.

7 – I love when we get in the car to go somewhere, K instantly starts driving in the opposite direction.  When asked where we are going, K always yells, “I don’t know!”  Then it takes us twice as long to get there.  How does he get anywhere by himself?

8 – I love that K will randomly break out in dance, with or without music.

9 – I love that K will randomly show up with 7-Eleven Slurpies for me because he knows how much I love them.

10 – I love that when K puts his mind to something, he goes all the way.  For example, the back door was squeaking and driving him crazy.  So, at 6:30am, he finally had enough and sprayed WD-40 on the door.  Then, he went through the entire house WD-40’ing the doors so that none of them squeak.  This all happened while I was sleeping.  Then, he woke me up to tell me he did that.  He was so proud.  Now, he opens every door in the house and says, “Hear that?  Nothing.”  Nerd.

11 – I love that K likes to high-five.  A lot.  In front of people.  Yep, that’s right.  No shame.

12 – I love that K is super competitive and even when we are on a walk together, he has to be a foot ahead of me so he can be winning.  Now, it doesn’t help that I have a waddle and walk really slow, but still.

13 – I love that K has a nickname for me – Babydoll.  He’s called me that ever since we started dating and he probably will for the rest of our lives.  He already has a nickname for Mini, and she’s sure to have that the rest of her life too.

14 – I love that K will go out of his way for anyone, whether he knows them or not.  If someone needs something, K is first in line to help.

15 – I love that K is always late.  He even makes me late.  Ok, maybe I don’t love this.  But, it is one of his quirks and I’m stuck with it.  So therefore, I love it about him.  And, everyone knows this and they’ve come to accept that K will always be late.

16 – I love when K is walking Uma and she rubs her muzzled face up against his leg (yes, she wears a muzzle on walks – she’s sort of snotty towards other dogs – it must be the princess in her) because it itches and she wants it off.  Every time this happens, he replies, “I love you too, Uma!”

17 – I love that K is up for anything, even if it means sitting at home on the couch, cuddled with the pups and watching a movie.

18 – I love how laid back K is and how he’s so good at going with the flow.  We don’t have to make plans to have fun.  Sometimes we’ll just get in the car and drive until we see something that looks fun.

19 – I love how K makes me laugh.  He’s so goofy and knows exactly when I need a good laugh.

20 – I love how K doesn’t mind that I write about him on the blog.  All.the.time.  He’s entertaining, what can I say!

21 – I love how K will sit through stupid You Tube videos of animals being funny, just because he likes to watch me laugh until I cry.  And, he’ll file those videos in the depths of his head in case I’m having a bad day and he needs to pull one of those out.  Way to go, K!

22 – I love that K’s brain is always “on”.  I like to say he has a hamster, Ernesto, constantly running on a wheel in there.  Sometimes, usually at bedtime, I lean over and whisper in his ear, “Stop running, Ernesto,” because we need to go to sleep.  Sometimes, when K’s brain is really fried after a long work week or event, Ernesto is laying next to the wheel, giving the occasional spin with his paw.  That’s when K’s eyes gloss over and you know he couldn’t make a decision to save his life.

23 – I love that K rocks the bow ties.  And suspenders.  And only he can.  Go K, go!

24 – I love that K is always ready to volunteer.  It doesn’t matter what he is doing, as long as he can give back to the community, he is happy.  This is something we both love and I’m happy we are able to do it together.  I think some of the most fun we’ve had this year has been volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House, cooking dinner for the guests.  Plus, it’s fun watching K cook.  And, he looks pretty cute in an apron!

25 – I love that K likes to make plans for the future.  Way in the future.  As in, we already know where/what we want our retirement home to be like.  Haha.  Hint, there will be a golf cart involved.  Be jealous.

26 – I love that when K asks, “Where to next?” usually after dinner, my answer is always Target.  He has come to the point where he stops asking and just drives me to Target.  I love that man!

27 – I love that K will randomly call me from work and ask if he can have a date night with me tonight.  Ok, twist my arm.  I love that we still date.

28 – I love that K posts random Facebook statuses just to get a reaction from people.  My not-so-favorite one started with Dani’s lady doctor…  The rest are usually pretty funny and not meant to be taken seriously.  But, it is very funny to watch people’s responses thinking that K is serious.  We just love a good laugh around here.

29 – I love that K is already in love with Mini Mullan.  He just keeps saying how excited he is for her.  I also love the K leaned over and whispered to me the other day that he’s so happy we are having a girl.  Seriously, already the best daddy ever!

30 – I love that K has finally stopped worrying about his age and getting older.  I think he’s extremely happy with where he is in his life, where we are as a couple, and that he is finally about to become a dad.  32 isn’t looking so bad!

31 – I love having K as my best friend.  He is always there for me.  He will listen until his ears fall off.  He knows me better than anyone.  And, he loves me for me….goofy quirks and all.  And, I love him for all of his goofy quirks too.  We are meant for each other.  We are swans.

32 – And, I’m ending this the same way I ended last year’s list:  I love how k is mine.  All mine.  I claimed him.  He’s mine.  Forever.  (Whether you like it or not, k.  You are stuck with ME!).

There you have it.  32 reasons why I love my K for his 32nd birthday.

K, I hope you have a wonderful birthday and I plan on doing everything in my power to make it that way.  I know 32 is going to be magical for you and I can’t wait to say that about 33 and 34 and so on!  You deserve to have the best year ever.  But first, we start with the best birthday ever.  Happy, happy birthday my love!!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

It’s May….finally!

Holy cow, it’s finally May. Remember when I said April should fly by because we were so busy? Yeah, it didn’t. It seemed to drag on and on.

Now that it’s May, I can officially say Mini Mullan will be here next month. Oh wow, next month. Who’s excited!?! ME, ME! I’m done being pregnant. I just want our baby. Now. And, it doesn’t help that I’m impatient (thanks for that trait, DW). I really have no idea how I’m going to make it another 6 weeks. Maybe May will fly by!? Haha, probably not. Everyone that has already had kids tells me the last 2 months go by so slow. Well, so far that’s true. And, it doesn’t help that we have everything done and we are just waiting. I should have taken my time on the room, the shopping for necessities, laundry, etc. At least I still have to get the zoo ready. Mainly the dog-cats. This could take awhile too. They are smart but only when they want to be. I have a feeling all of my baby pep talks have gone in one giant ear and out the other. Sebastian’s fluffy ear fur probably blocked everything I said. He’s sort of a mama’s boy and I have a feeling he will have the hardest time with Mini’s arrival. Any suggestions to get a couple of dog-cats ready for a baby?

We do have some fun things coming up in May to look forward to, including K’s birthday! Yay! I love K’s birthday…way more than my own. And, I’m on top of it this year. I’ve already purchased AND wrapped the presents, figured out dessert (for him to take to work – I’ll share pics), his cake, and of course, planned his favorite dinner, mac ‘n cheese.

Anyone else excited that it is finally May? Are you looking forward to nicer weather? I hope everyone has a fantastic May!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

K always has to be the center of attention…

K is always the center of attention.  He’s good at it too.  And, he’s pretty funny.  (Just a little.  We can’t make him think he’s really funny because then it will go to his head.)

{d&k} had a date night on Wednesday.  We went out to eat (Olive Garden, thanks to a birthday gift card from my parents) and to see a Second City show in downtown Big D.

The show was hilarious!  There was not as much audience participation and improve as I thought there would be, but it was still very funny.  There was a skit in the middle of the show where the comedians went around interviewing audience members as if they just left a voting booth for the election.  They slowly made their way around the theater, asking people questions and then making fun of them for their answers.

Well, guess who they stopped at next?  Yep, k.

They asked him some “election” questions.  Laughed a bit.  Then the comedian asked k was his sign was.  K’s reply, “Yield.”  Nerd.  Everyone laughed.  K’s face turned red.

Then, the comedian said they were going to play a word association game.  He said he would say a word and k would have to say the first thing he thinks of.  The comedian said, “Unicorns.”  K said, “Yes.”  What?!  Nerd.  Everyone laughed.  K’s face turned a brighter shade of red.

The comedian finally finished up with him and then the other comedians jumped in on making fun of k a little more.  He was such a good sport!  It was very funny!  And, I am so thankful that k was on the end of the aisle and not me!!

They also had a ton of skits making fun of chain restaurants, like Applebee’s, Chili’s, and you guessed it, Olive Garden.  I thought that was especially funny since we had eaten there right before!

So, {d&k} had a great date night!  And, it was super cheap.  We used a gift card on dinner.  The tickets were Pay What You Can tickets, which are tickets that you basically get to name your price.  Some shows allow an entire night of PWYC tickets, or some just use them to fill seats.  So, I paid $4.00 for 2 tickets (some people get them for a penny!  I didn’t want to seem too cheap, incase we buy again in the future.  They might remember me!!).  The most expensive part of the night was parking for $10.  I love cheap date nights!!

Have you had any good date nights lately?  Oh, you need a sitter?  Well, I have two very capable pugs that absolutely love children! They also offer the Pay What You Can option.  Usually in the form of dog treats.  They will be waiting by the phone for your call.  But, just a word of advice….hide any of your kid’s stuffed animals.  Elvis does bad, bad things to stuffed animals.

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Thank You!

Thank you for all the birthday wishes!  I had a wonderful birthday in Ohio, with friends and family.  And cake.  I had lots of cake.

{d&k} got into Ohio on Wednesday night and were greeted at the airport by k’s parents.  Then, we went to dinner at our favorite Ohio Mexican restaurant {yum}.  On Thursday, {d&k} ran errands, had lunch with friends, and then went to d’s parents for dinner and homemade birthday oreo cookies {yum}.  On Friday, {d&k} ran more errands (it’s amazing how much you have to do when you go home for a visit) and d got to take a birthday nap before meeting friends out for dinner and drinks.  Saturday d was coordinating a wedding all day and k got to spend the day with his parents, which included a trip to the Garrett Ranch to visit my parents and the mini donkeys.  Sunday, {d&k} went out for a birthday lunch with d’s parents, then to visit friends, and finished off their stay in Ohio with dinner at k’s parent’s house.  We had a jam-packed, fun-filled birthday weekend!  For those of you that I was able to visit with, I’m so happy we did!  For those of you that I didn’t get a chance to see, we’ll be back for Christmas…hopefully we can squeeze in something then.

I was a bad birthday blogger.  I managed to snap 3 pictures.  That’s it.  Sad.  Pitiful.  I’ll be better next year.

KT made me a birthday cake! Thanks, KT!  And, I can’t stop eating it.  Must.stop.eating.cake.  It was not my plan to gain 30 pounds on my 30th birthday.  But at this rate, that’s what it’s looking like.

{d&k} at d’s birthday dinner.

k bought d an electric sander for her birthday. Best. present. evah! Thanks, k! And for any one else, if you ever have to get me a gift, tools are always a good idea. Always. Watch out Bob Vila.

Now, it’s back to the real world.  Back to work.  Back to taking care of the dogs.  Back to eating healthy (oof, birthday weekends are full of bad food and cake.  Lots of cake).

And, I get to start on all my projects that have required an electric sander.   Like…refinishing my dining room table, 2 bedroom side tables (they NEED to be turquoise), and I’m sure I can find more.  Anyone need anything refinished or painted?  Bring it on over!

Thanks for stopping by!  Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

It’s that time of year again…

Yes, that’s right.  It’s my birthday.  I don’t really care too much about my birthday.  It happens once a year.  I’m not all princessy-like and want the world to revolve around me, where everyone treats me special, and makes a big deal about it.  I don’t like surprises and I hate opening presents in front of people.  I would prefer to just hang out with friends and family, have a cookout or go out to eat, and call it a day.  Just like any other day.  I feel bad for k, though.  He likes birthdays.  He likes surprising me (or trying too…I’m sort of hard to surprise).  Sorry, k!

Plus, it doesn’t help that this year I turn the big 3-0, dun, dun, dunnnnnn.  Last year I turned 28 again.  I was considering turning 29 this year (again), but then I thought a little more about it and I’m okay with being 30.  I don’t feel 30.  I don’t think I look 30 (wahoo!).  So, why not be 30 and laugh at the shocked faces when someone asks how old I am?!  Ahem, now is when you act shocked.  Thanks.

And, I’m pretty proud of my life so far.  The last 29 years have been pretty good.  I’m looking forward to what my 30s will bring!

So, today I am 30.  Happy birthday to me.  And, now we move on.  Back to normal.  No big deal.

Enjoy your day! And, if today is your birthday, Happy Birthday!!

My Unhealthy Obsession with Fireworks

Happy 4th of July!  I hope you all had an amazing time!

{d&k} had a great time!  We spent time with friends and saw fireworks on July 3rd and 4th!  Wahoo!

I love, love, love fireworks.  They are probably one of my favorite things in the world.  I know, I’m weird.  I can’t help it.  This year’s fireworks were fantastic!  And, the best part is, I got to see them with k!!  Over the last few years, k was always working on or around July 4th, so we didn’t get to watch fireworks together.  Sometimes I would tag along with friends, but it wasn’t the same.  I wanted to watch them with him!

Now that we are in Dallas and less busy, we get to see fireworks together!  Yay!

This year we saw two very good shows and I spent the whole time “ooh-ing” and “ahh-ing” all while k and our friends made fun of me.  Thanks guys!  Don’t be jealous of my love for fireworks.  I can’t help it they are the coolest!

We also spent a lot of time in the pool and we are a little lobster-like right now.  K has been trying really hard to get rid of his “golfer” tan.  Right now, it looks like he is always wearing a white t-shirt and socks.  Hot.  Especially when it looks like he’s wearing socks with sandals.  Yes, I give you permission to make fun of him.

Here’s a little peek into our 4th:

Here are the pugs sitting & patiently waiting for ice cream to celebrate Elvis’ birthday.

Uma, enjoying her ice cream.  Maybe I should have given her a bigger bowl?!

Enjoying the pool!

Enjoying the pool even more with our “adult capri suns” (If you haven’t tried these yet, you should! They are delicious!!)

On our way to the fireworks!

And, there you have it.  A little peek into our 4th of July.  What did you do to celebrate the 4th?

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

Happy Birthday!

Look at that cute, little face!  Happy Birthday, Elvis!

Elvis is our only animal that we know the date of his birth.  We know that Uma was born in November 2005 and that Charlie was born in January 2006, but we don’t know the exact day.  So, we just sort of celebrate their birthdays some time during those months.  We don’t know when Oskar’s birthday is, but we adopted him in April, so we celebrate then.  And as for Sebastian, who knows!  We aren’t even sure how old he is, hehe.  We only know that he is giant and will keep getting bigger.  Yay!  I love giant, dog-like cats!  I’m hoping he’ll surpass mountain lion size and start to scare the neighborhood children.  Hey, everyone has goals.  This is mine.  Don’t judge.

Back to Elvis!

We do know Elvis’ birthday:  July 3, 2006.  So we celebrate!  Our doggy birthday celebrations usually include vanilla ice cream for the pups, accompanied by a brain freeze (They don’t understand how to stop eating ice cream.  They have this in common with k). And this year we’ll probably take them to our new, favorite dog park with the pond.  They love, love, love to swim!  I think that sounds like a pretty great birthday.  Maybe that’s what I’ll do for my birthday…eat ice cream and swim.  Maybe at the same time.  Hey, it’s my birthday and I can do what I want!  (K, take note of this.)

Happy birthday to Elvis and to all of you out there who are celebrating today!!  Especially Elvis’ brother, Presley!  Happy birthday, Presley!!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

K’s bday photos

I know, I know.  These are long overdue.  Since coming back to Ohio, I’ve fallen into the busy, running around like crazy life I left 6 months ago.  Finding the time to blog has not been easy.  But, I’m back and I have lots to share with you.  You are in for a treat, my friends.

Now, onto the long overdue photos of k’s birthday!

20120603-194857.jpg
Here is k with his bright, shiny new toy car.

20120603-194916.jpg

And, I made k play a little basketball before work to show off his new hoop (and car, all in one photo, thankyouverymuch).

20120603-194932.jpg

Here is k at the store, picking out his basketball hoop.  I had no idea what kind of hoop he would want so, being the awesome wife that I am, I let him pick it out himself.  Go me!  And, go k for picking out a great hoop!

20120603-194956.jpg

Here, Big E and k are trying to put together the hoop.  I’m not sure if they were actually working or playing tug-of-war with all the pieces.  I’m actually quite impressed that the hoop is still standing and that all the pieces were used.  You never know what you’re going to get when these two are involved.

20120603-195018.jpg

Here’s k putting on the final touch…the net.  Yay!  Happy birthday, k!  I hope you are enjoying your new car and basketball hoop!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k}

What have {d&k} been up to?

I’m glad you asked!  {d&k} have been very, very busy the last few days…

{d&k} celebrated k’s birthday on Friday.  And d’s brother, Big E, was in town.  First, {d&k} went to pick up k’s first birthday present….a new car! (Said in my best Price is Right announcer voice.)  We had been wanting to trade in k’s car for a while and had been shopping around a bit when we found a cute little, black Nissan Altima that was perfect for us.  So, Friday we stopped by the dealership to sign the final paperwork and take her home.  Yay!

Next, we all went to pick up k’s second birthday present…a new basketball hoop!  (Again, announcer voice).  He’s been wanting one for awhile and I was waiting for the perfect time to give it to him and since he’s been playing basketball 3 times a week at the school, I thought this was it!  Well, I don’t know anything about basketball hoops, backboard style and size, and all of that.  So, my best option was to take k to pick it out.  Not very much fun to “open” though.  But, I did wrap up a new basketball that the pugs so lovingly picked out and had him open that before we picked out the hoop.

After shopping, we all went out for Mexican (what else?!) and then went back home to put the hoop together.  Big E and k spent about 2 hours putting the hoop together and then another 2 hours playing on it.  They didn’t come in until 1am!  I think they had a blast.  The remainder of the weekend’s free time was spent playing basketball.  Yay for a great gift idea!

Before we got to enjoy k’s birthday weekend, we had the “pleasure” of trying to register our cars and get new Texas driver’s licenses.  What a horrible, horrible, time we had.  First, I googled where to go for a new driver’s license and it sent us to the DMV location nearest us (which wasn’t really that near).  When we got there (before it opens) and waited in line, the women at the desk tells us we are in the wrong place and that we have to go to the other end of town.  Ok, then what exactly are these other 20 people waiting in line for?  What does the DMV in Texas do?!?

Then we drive across town (and it’s Dallas, so it is not a short trip) to the Department of Public Safety and we wait in a really, really long line, only to find out we have to have our cars registered before we can get our licenses.  What?!  Then we tell the lady that the website first sent us to the DMV and didn’t say anything about registering your car first and she said, “Oh yeah, the website is wrong.”  Thanks, lady.  You’re very helpful.  And so it your WRONG website.  Ugh.

So, back in the car we went.  We drove across town (closer to where we live) again and went to register our cars.  Thankfully, the line wasn’t that long and the lady that helped us was very nice (something we had not been used to thus far).  Now that we had already wasted 4 hours, over 2 days trying to get this stuff done, it was time to go back to get our licenses.  We waited until Friday morning to do this, so we could get there at 7:30, before they opened at 8am, and get in line.  Well, a line was waiting for us.  We were probably 25 people deep, oi.  So we wait, and wait, and wait.  Finally get in the door and “check in”, only to wait more.  We’re finally called back and have to show our Ohio id’s, our birth certificates, social security cards, and practically give them blood for them to believe it’s us, before they give us a Texas license.  I’m confused by this.  People can walk into a store and buy a gun and go to war with less documentation.  And, after all of that, they gave us an 8.5×11 sheet of paper with what our license will look like until we get it in the mail.  Seriously?  So after 6.5 hours over 3 days, we get a piece of paper?!  You should have seen us trying to get into a bar on Saturday night to celebrate k’s b-day.  They looked at us like we were nuts with this huge sheet of paper, trying to pass it off as our id.  Then, even though our picture is on it, they didn’t believe us, so we had to show them something else with our picture on it.  Well, the only other thing we had were our Costco cards.  Haha.  They eventually let us in.  Good Lord!  And, I was terrified to try to go through airport security with that, which of course, was no problem at all.  Strange? Yes.  No, you can’t come into my hole-in-the-wall-bar, but sure, hop on a plane across the country.  Enjoy your flight!

And, that transitions me into…we are back in Ohio!  {d&k} are back home visiting friends & family, and d has 4 weddings to coordinate {happy dance}.  I’m already missing my zoo, but they are in good hands.  I just hope they are behaving.  Sneaky little weasels.

So, that is what we’ve been up to.  I have pictures of k’s birthday, and I’ll post those soon.

Enjoy your day,
