Fancy Photos

Little Miss JR had a fancy newborn photo shoot with Jamie from View La La Photography a few weeks ago.  If you are in the DFW area and are in need of a photographer, Jamie is your girl!  She did a fantastic job photographing Juliet and I almost cry every time I look at these photos (stupid hormones!).

Here’s a little preview:

Ok, that was a BIG preview, but I couldn’t just choose a few. I mean, seriously, look at how cute these pictures are! Now comes the hard part of choosing which ones to print, frame, and hang around the house. I don’t have room for all of them. I may have to rotate on a weekly or monthly basis.

Thanks for stopping by and listening to me ramble on about JR!
Enjoy your day,

Getting the hang of this…

Hey everyone!  {d&k} are still here!  We have been pretty busy trying to get the hang of this whole parenting thing, haha.  K went back to work full-time this week, so I’ve been busy trying to get things done while Juliet sleeps.  I’ve always been really good at multi-tasking…but I must say, I’m awesome now that I only have a couple of hours to get everything done!  I love it!  I feel so productive, hehe.

Anyways, things are going really well here.  We are having a blast with our little girl, even on the little amount of sleep we get a night.  The sad part is, I’m getting more sleep now with a newborn than I did when I was pregnant.  Haha, I’ll take it!

And, if anyone is wondering…the zoo absolutely loves Juliet!  The pugs are always on “patrol” and won’t let her out of their sight.  Oskar follows me everywhere and will lay right next to me, in order to keep an eye on Juliet.  He was always very protective of me, but now, it’s ridiculous.  I’ve never seen him so alert and ready to pounce on a cat.  Elvis lays next to Juliet every chance he gets and he has stopped trying to lick her face.  I think once he realized she was staying, he didn’t feel the need to claim lick her anymore.  Uma, however, must lick some part of Juliet’s body everyday.  She loves to run into Juliet’s room, sniff her entire body, and then pick a spot to lick.  Thankfully it is usually on her leg or back and not the face.  Ew.  The cats could really care less.  Charlie, dog-cat #1, just started getting close to her.  He began nuzzling her this morning and found that he really liked to nuzzle her diaper.  The diaper was covered in black fur after that, haha.  Sebastian, dog-cat #2, occasionally will sniff her, but that’s about it.  He doesn’t mind her and will lay next to her on the couch…but that’s about it.  I’m really happy that everyone gets along and that the pups aren’t jealous.  It must be exhausting being on patrol all day, because all the zoo does is sleep.  Hah.  I’m not complaining!  It makes for a very quiet house sometimes.

I promise to keep up with the blog and share all of my new motherhood stories with you. But, not until next week…my parents come in town tonight {happy dance} and are here for the weekend!  I can’t wait.  And, this is their first time meeting Juliet!  I’m so excited for this weekend!!  I will fill you all in next week…and you know I’ll have photos!

Thanks for hanging around, even though I’ve been horrible at blogging lately.  I will be better, I promise!

Enjoy your day,

She’s here!!

She’s finally here!

Welcome to the world, Juliet Renee Mullan!
Born 6.10.13 at 5:53pm, 8lbs 6oz, 20″ long.

We are so in love with her! {d&k} are so happy to expand our little family!

I’ll post more about her soon. Until then, here are some photos to hold you over. Enjoy!

Enjoy your day,

It’s May….finally!

Holy cow, it’s finally May. Remember when I said April should fly by because we were so busy? Yeah, it didn’t. It seemed to drag on and on.

Now that it’s May, I can officially say Mini Mullan will be here next month. Oh wow, next month. Who’s excited!?! ME, ME! I’m done being pregnant. I just want our baby. Now. And, it doesn’t help that I’m impatient (thanks for that trait, DW). I really have no idea how I’m going to make it another 6 weeks. Maybe May will fly by!? Haha, probably not. Everyone that has already had kids tells me the last 2 months go by so slow. Well, so far that’s true. And, it doesn’t help that we have everything done and we are just waiting. I should have taken my time on the room, the shopping for necessities, laundry, etc. At least I still have to get the zoo ready. Mainly the dog-cats. This could take awhile too. They are smart but only when they want to be. I have a feeling all of my baby pep talks have gone in one giant ear and out the other. Sebastian’s fluffy ear fur probably blocked everything I said. He’s sort of a mama’s boy and I have a feeling he will have the hardest time with Mini’s arrival. Any suggestions to get a couple of dog-cats ready for a baby?

We do have some fun things coming up in May to look forward to, including K’s birthday! Yay! I love K’s birthday…way more than my own. And, I’m on top of it this year. I’ve already purchased AND wrapped the presents, figured out dessert (for him to take to work – I’ll share pics), his cake, and of course, planned his favorite dinner, mac ‘n cheese.

Anyone else excited that it is finally May? Are you looking forward to nicer weather? I hope everyone has a fantastic May!

Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your day,

Weekend Recap

Hi everyone!

I’ve finally recuperated from my hectic, yet short, weekend in Ohio/Michigan.  And, I have lots to share with you!

{d&k} had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner (one day early).  We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Spaghetti Warehouse.  I think everyone had the same idea as us because it was busy!  But, we didn’t mind.  The food was yummy and the company was even better.

Look how handsome my date is 🙂

Love this place!

Yum! Too bad I filled up on bread and had to take the majority of this home as leftovers. But, the nice this is I got to enjoy for 2 days instead of one.

Valentine’s Day pug love. What could be cuter?!

On Valentine’s Day, K dropped me off at the airport to fly back to Michigan. He basically kicked me out for the weekend. At least, that’s what I told him. He was sad to see me go, but he is the one that got the bestest and me tickets for MB20. So, like I said, he kicked me out for the weekend.

Friday was a busy, busy day. I did manage to sneak in a quick lunch with B, which was unexpected and fantastic! And, I stopped by my cousin’s house to check out all of her old baby items. She said she needed to clean out her basement and I could take what I wanted. Wahoo! So, I loaded up my sister’s car with a car seat and base, high chair, some toys, and 2 huge bins of clothes. I left the car seat, high chair, and toys with my parents. Those will be one less thing we have to travel with. I then had to figure out how to get all the clothes home. I knew I would be bringing some clothes back, so I packed a large suitcase that had plenty of extra room. What I didn’t know is how many clothes I would be getting. So, I decided to buy another checked bag and borrow my parents large suitcase. By the time I left, both suitcases were jam-packed, both weighing in at just under 40 pounds. Whoa, that was close. But now, Mini Mullan’s closet is stocked!!

The loot! Thanks, cousin!!

Mini Mullan’s closet. This isn’t including the full dresser! Seriously, I have the best cousin evah!

Friday night, bestest picked me up for our date and we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner (what else would we have eaten?!) then went on to the concert. MB20 was amazing! We’ve been to so many of these shows together, our first being back in 1996. Rob Thomas made a few comments about coming to Toledo since 1996 and then he said that they’ve been touring for 17 years. I did the math and holy cow, we are old! We’ve been going to MB20 shows together for 17 years. Holy cow. Now, tell me who the true fans are!!

Woohooo, let the fun begin! We had awesome seats…thanks K!

Sorry that it’s fuzzy…it was dark and from my phone camera. But, look how happy we are!

Bestest took much better photos with her camera. I will steal them for you guys. But, you get the point!

On Saturday, I had lunch with my parents (yep, you guessed it, Mexican!) and then spent the rest of the day hanging out with family. Then, we had a great dinner with the whole family and my grandparents. I tried to stay up past 9pm, but I was exhausted. Baby shopping and a concert really wear a pregnant girl out, haha. Then, sadly, I was up at 6am to head back to the airport. It was a super short but fantastic weekend. Thanks for kicking me out, K!

And, in 2 weeks, we’ll be back in Ohio/Michigan for our baby shower! We will be there for a few more days, so we will be able to spend more time with everyone. We can’t wait!

So, that was my busy weekend. How was yours?

Enjoy your day,

Oskar’s update

Oskar wanted to say hi and tell you that everything is going well with the zoo.  They all seem to be getting along quite well, and even surprise me by cuddling up together.  I’m pretty sure they think I’m not looking.  Elvis and Oskar have been caught cuddling and touching.  I know!  And, I did find Uma and Oskar on the same bed.  Not touching.  But, on the same bed is huge for them.  Usually Uma kicks Oskar off the dog bed so she can lay on it.  Now, I’m not sure if she actually kicks him off, or if he is just terrified of her laying on him because she doesn’t look down before she drops.  Either way….that was a huge accomplishment in the Mullan Casa last week.  And, the cats have been spotted laying next to each other on the couch.  Again, huge accomplishment.

Our little family is starting to get nice and cozy together.  It only took how many years?!  And, it’s just in time before they get ripped apart by a baby.  Haha.  Maybe that’s why they are getting closer.  They know they won’t get as much attention from me and they are bonding with each other.  Hey, I can wish.

Anyways, Oskar just wanted to fill you in on how happy the zoo has been.  And, he told me to post a cute photo of him, in case you forgot which one Oskar is…
As if anyone could forget that so-ugly-it’s-cute-face.

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Wednesday!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k} and Oskar too!

Alien Dance Party

Mini Mullan apparently likes to dance.  Every day.  At 10pm.  So much, that she scared the cat, who was laying across my belly.  Hilarious?  Yes!  Creepy?  Heck yes!

Mini Mullan has been moving around quite a bit lately.  K was actually able to feel her, twice, last weekend.  He has not been able to feel her since.  We are thinking it’s either because 1, his hands are really warm and she likes that so she’s nestled right up next to them, or 2, she doesn’t like him.  I’m going with 2, but K seems to be stuck on number 1.

So, this further confirms my thought that Mini Mullan really is an alien trying to get out.  She’s just getting her workout in, you know, training, every night until the “big day” when she attacks me.  From the inside.  No big deal.  Right?  RIGHT?!  I mean, women go through alien attacks like this everyday.  Some, even come back for round two, three, and even four.

I’m just saying, my alien theory may not be that far off.

And, based on K’s face when he felt her kick, I think he’s on the alien bandwagon too.

Thanks for stopping by!

Enjoy your day,
{d&k} (and the little alien too)

K’s drugged-up state

Hi friends!

Sorry I’ve been lacking in the posts this week…I’ve been taking care of K.  Yep, that’s right.  K had his wisdom teeth out on Tuesday and has been in a little bit of pain this week.  He’s been taking it easy and I’ve been playing nurse.  He’s doing much better, still sore, but back at work now.  So, my blogging fell a bit behind.  But, to make up for it, I have some funny K-under-anesthesia stories for you!!

K went in for his surgery on Tuesday morning and about an hour later I was able to go back and see him and help wake him up from the drugs.  This is when the laughing-until-crying began.  As soon as I walk in and sit down, the nurse taps K’s arm and tells him to wake up and see who she brought in for him.  He opens one eye, barely, sees me and flicks me off.  Ha.  Then he goes right back to sleep.  So I start talking to him to try to get him to wake up and nothing.  No movement.  Nothing.  Then, the doctor comes in to tell me that K did a great job and that he should have a pretty speedy recovery (yay!) and then he taps K’s arm to wake him up.  K, of course, wakes up, opens both eyes and gives the doctor two thumbs up.  Then, he turns to look at me and flicks me off again.  Apparently in his drugged-up state he thinks I did the surgery on him.

After a little while longer of coaxing, he is finally starting to wake up.  I kept bribing him with going home to sleep in his own bed, instead of the fake leather dentist’s chair, but he would just nestle into the chair more, like it was the most comfortable chair he’s ever been in.  Ha.

Then, he holds up four fingers and I said, “Four?”  He nods and then holds up four fingers on one hand and two on the other.  I said, “Six?”  He nods and holds up five fingers.  I said, “Five?” and then he proceeds to make rippling/ocean like movements with his hand.  I told him I had no idea what that meant and he flicked me off, again.  At this point, the tears came.  I couldn’t hold them in.  I was laughing so hard!  He was just so cute lying there, eyes closed, trying to communicate with me and I had no idea what he was talking about.  Plus, his mouth was stuffed full of gauze and he couldn’t talk.  Poor guy.  I feel bad for laughing now, but it was just so funny.

At this point, the nurse has come in to talk to me more about his recovery and we are both trying to wake him up.  He’s finally “awake” and able to sit up.  He’s trying to talk to us but he’s not making any sense.  We are asking him questions and he kept pointing to me to answer for him.  And then he would get upset when I answered wrong, haha.  We decide he’s awake enough to walk, so the nurse has me pull my car around out front while she gets him to the door.  After waiting by my car for a few minutes, I decide to go in and see if everything is okay.  I get inside, just as they are coming out, and grab K’s other arm to help balance him.  We walk him to the car, put him in, and try to buckle him in.  But, he’s insistent on buckling himself in.  He finally gets the seat belt in and then does a little celebratory dance in the car.  Then, the nurse hands me 3 packages of little kid toothbrushes.  I look at her confused and then ask if these are for K to brush his teeth with.  She laughs and said, “No, they are for the baby.”  At this point I’m very confused and she sees it.  She begins to tell me that as they were walking out the back hallway, they passed some boxes of kid toothbrushes and K stopped to get one.  She asked what he needed that for and he said that he needs girly colored toothbrushes for the baby.  She laughs and K gets upset and won’t leave until she finds him toothbrushes.  So, she begins digging through these boxes and keeps pulling out toothbrushes but K doesn’t like them because they are not girly enough.  She said he was adamant on getting girly toothbrushes.  Haha.  Finally, she found three that he was okay with.  So now, we have three girly toothbrushes for the baby.  I didn’t have the heart to tell him that we won’t need those for a while.  So, instead, they are in the toothbrush holder in the baby’s bathroom.  Even in a drugged-up state, K was still concerned with the baby. What a sweet man!

The funny thing about all of this is that he had no idea any of this happened.  After we got him home and let him sleep off what was left of the anesthesia, I told him these stories.  He was shocked and couldn’t stop laughing.  He said that apparently while drugged, he was very concerned with the baby’s dental hygiene and very upset with me.  I told him that he’s never flicked me off that many times in a row, haha.

So now, K is in the recovery stages and is doing well.  He’s still in bit of pain, but the pain meds seem to be helping with that.  And, the poor thing is on a liquid/soft foods diet.  He’s been living off of tomato soup, instant breakfast drinks, cream of wheat (yuck!), and ice cream.  He did try bread for the first time yesterday and had to chew it with his front teeth.  I had a weird vision that a squirrel was sitting across from me at Panera, eating tomato soup and bread.  It was weird.  I’m hoping that by next week, he’ll be able to incorporate a few other soft foods into his diet.  Fingers crossed.

And, Tara is coming into town this weekend and K won’t be able to eat at any of the restaurants we want to go to.  Do you think the restaurants will mix up his food in a blender for him?  Yummm….drinkable burgers and fries!  Haha.

So, that has been my week.  Entertaining to say the least.  How has your week been?  On another note, the baby’s crib, mattress, and bedding arrived in the mail.  I will share pictures with you next week.  And, I finished painting the dresser.  Those pictures to come next week too.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend!  We’ll chat next week!
Enjoy your day,

I think they know

I think the zoo knows {d&k} are having a baby.  I mean, I had “the talk” with them right after we found out.  You know…the talk.  The one where they find out they are becoming big siblings.  Yeah, that talk.  And, they all seemed excited about it.  Uma kept getting distracted by a piece of lint blowing across the floor, but that’s to be expected.  It’s Uma.

Other than Uma, everyone handled it pretty well.  I’m actually not worried about the pups at all.  They adore kids.  When S was in town with her son, Pax, the pugs would lay outside his door until he fell asleep and they’d be right back there the next morning until he got up.  It was so cute.  When Pax was little, a pug guarded him in his carrier at all times.  Usually there was a pug on either side of him.  If one pug needed a drink, the other would stand at attention until the other pug came back.  They are ready.  And, as for Uma, she is clueless.  All.the.time.  So, she’ll be super excited every day she sees the baby.  Maybe she has short-term memory loss?  Each day is a brand new day to her.  Hmmm.  That could explain so many things.  It could also help me to understand why she hits her head on the back door handle every day, enough to give herself a bump and scar.

Anyways…So, the reason I think the zoo knows that we are having a baby is because they have all become a little extra cuddly lately.  Everyone wants to sleep on me.  Really, ON me.  Not just a head or paw touching me like they usually do.  Nope.  Entire pug/pugeranian/dog-cat body ON me.  Sometimes there are 3 animals that NEED to be on me.  Right now, mom.  Maybe they feel they need to get their cuddles in before the baby gets here.  I don’t know.  But it is definitely a new thing.  Oskar has been laying across my belly at night while I’m in bed and I think he’s crushing the baby.  She normally moves around a lot before I go to bed.  I think she’s having a late night (haha, late night = 9:30 for this girl) dance party in there.  Anyways, the last few nights while Oskar has been on me, no dance party.  I really think his little 20 pound body is crushing her.

And, as for the cats, they keep bringing me things.  Usually cat toys.  And, they are called dog-cats for a reason.  The two of them play fetch all the time.  But now, they aren’t bringing me the toys to throw.  They are little, slim-filled gifts.  Maybe for the baby?  I did wake up the other day with a cat toy on my belly.  Yep, that’s right.  And, it was under the covers.  How did a cat get the toy onto the bed and strategically place the toy under the covers on my ever-growing belly, that not too many things can balance on?!?  They must have had this feat planned out for a while.  As soon as I woke up and threw the covers off, I just started laughing. I actually had to wake K up to tell him because it was that funny.  Why do I have these furry little weirdos?!

So, what do you think?  Do you think my zoo knows?  If any of you have kids and a zoo, did your zoo act crazy too?

Enjoy your day,
